A curious article might bo written on the immunity from wounds in action o ! some generals , and the ill fortune ol others iu becoming the billet fur a bullet. No commander ( adds Mr. A. Forbes in the English Illustrated Mngaziiio ) was over moro forward in the lighting line than Sheridan , yet ho never got a scratch. Sknbolt'iT , who many a time went at it with his own good sword , nnd in his white coat and < m 'his white charger headed every charge vrith a recklessness that men railed nnidnoss , had as complete an immunity as if ho carriud the charmed lifo that his soldiers ascribed , and wai wounded in the quiet trenches by a chrtiico bullet fired into the air a inilo away. Wellington was but pnco hit ; the bullet that carried away 'his ' boot heel scarce gave him a contusion.Grant was never struck ; no moro was Nanoluon. Ol Sir NoTillo Chamberlain again , ona of the most distinguished olliooro of our Indian army , the saying gees that ho never wont into action without .receiving n wound , and the gallant oKl man has been fighting pretty steadily over since the first Afghan war. Buzaino was a man to whom fortune was not atingy In the matter of wounds. At Horny there came to him the leaden reminder that ( ho was mortal , though this time it was into nearly as great a sham us itself. The Haiinilorn-HnrrlKon M'edtlliij ; . In return for the lumber the wo will bo given an entertainment of ml ; en beans , Indian pudding and other hings sweet to think of. This is the lapboard supper. A IJOIIK Ktuutrlo Kulhvay. The electrical railway between Port- ush and the Giant's Causeway , in the lorth of Irohnd , is said to bo the first ot he kind which has been constructed by \ corporation for purposes of profit , and t is at the same time the longest elec trical railway line in the world. It starts rom Portrush , a pretty watering place in the coast of Antrim , and at present tins only to Bushmills , a thriving vil- agc , six miles distant ; but it is intended o run it eventually to the Giant Cause way. The steel mils of the road are laid n a gravelled surface , and wore at first aid in asphalt and copper , fastened teach ach other The electricity was gciior- Ued at Portrush by a dynamo , worked > y a stationary engine of about 15-horso icwor. The attempt to convoy the loctric current along the rails vas found to give bail results , nnd in wet weather the leakage of electricity into the ground was so cnor- noua that the oflort to convoy energy in his way was abandoned. It then became - came necessary to insulate- the current nero completely. This was done by the rcction of a third rail running parallel with the line , but raised on wooden posts .bout two feet from the ground , and in- ulated by means of cups of insulito , vhich is formed by driving paradino oil nto sawdust at great pressure. Across roads and highways the current is con- luctod by an insulated underground cable. The tension of the electric current s regulated by self-acting governors at- -nchcd to the apparatus which drives the generators , and is thereby prevented rom being dangerous to life. By means of the elevated rail , the difficulty pre viously experienced in transmitting the electric current equally over the wliolo six miles of the line was successfully jvercomo. The company then received ; o dispense with the use of the stationary engine at Portrush , and ; o work the tramway power by jy watur. The works necessary for this purpose have- been erected at a part of : ho river Bush , near Bushmills , known as the Salmon Leap. The stream , aftcT dashing over rocks and boulders , tumbles through n deep gorge , and empties itaoif into the sea. By un artificial channel , springing from the bed of the river above the falls , the water is conveyed from some distance in a direction parallel with the stream , finally falling through twi cylindrical pipes , or ' 'flumes , " erected on the face of the cHfF.uighty feet high. Al the base of these "flumes" are two tur bine wheels , which produce a total ol over 100-horso power. The revolution o : the turbines turns two massive < uprighi shafts , which in turn communicate will a side shaft connected with a Jly-whec ! attached to one of Sinmon'n dynamos , it an adjacent building. From the dynamo the electricity is conveyed by an under ground cable to the terminus of the line ut Bushmills , about three-quart era o a mile distant , and thence along the third rail to Portruwh , supplying the moving cars at any point on their jour ney. The method of utilizing thu eleC' trie current iu as simple as it IH effective. Projecting from the bide of the tramcar are two flexible stool brushes , resting on the conducting rail ; And tha current ia thus transmitted to & dynamo f late in at enclosed compartment beneath the car1 riago. This dynamo , revolving in sym pathy with the developing dynamo on the Bush river , turns the wheeln by means of a chain gear , und so causes lo cjmotion. In this way , without ony ap parent motive power , the electric carriage riago , with its fifteen or twenty passen eengors , glides gracefully over the line with occasional flashes of light from th metallic brushuu as they sweep -along th elevated rail and from under the wheels ot the rontlnuvil ueo of mercury J 1 ( < oUhn tor tb treatment ol DlocxlanJ Hkln dl uit > t Uiey jwvu euro , anil nearly Blunjs Injure or totally culn th general health.
