about twenty , who has been in the em
ploy of the Chicago , Milwaukee & St ,
Paul railway as a brakeman on freight
trauma , running between Council Bluffs
and Perry , has commenced stilt against
that company for $10,000 damages , which
lie claims on account of his hand being
smashed while coupling , lie says that
the engine was uncoupled to run up to
the tank after water , and that the tender
was in such a bad condition that the
water ran over , and down onto
the coupling. This was in Jan
uary last , amid the weather befng
cold the water from and
as he took hold of the to mfto the
coupling , his glove froze to the link so
that ho could not pull out his hand in
time to save it. Ho claims that the en-
gincorbacked rocklesslyand that , though
hue signaled him to slack up , ate did not
do so On account of all these circumstances -
stances , lie thinks the company should
pay him 810,000 , as lie lost erie thumb
and two fingers by the vpteeze , Stafford
