The ahocldng report that Charles E , Dix , cashier of the Council Bluffs Savings bank , had shot himself , wont up and down the streets of the city yesterday morning hike the wind. The report proved only too true , Charles E , Dix is no more. Ho had been suffering from ill health for some time , and naturally weak physically , ho had by close applka tion to business became still further on foobled. Ho had during the past year or two made a noble struggle to regain health and vigor , and had indulged in outdoor recreations , riding , fishing , hunting , etc , , as far as possible , but last summer his health was such that ho had to temporarily abandon active business , and spent several months on the seashore - shore and in the oast. Since his return his health has begun to break again , and since last Thursday he has been confirmed - firmed to his room at the residence of A. W , , Street , Monday night ho seemed to be a littlofli ht but noth in serious , his remarks gboin g a little strange , ad ho s eke of hearing voices and fancied there wore others inure room besides those really present. Frotii the later and more startling facts it now ap pears that disease at last affected his mind , and that it was this bewildered condition of his brain which caused hint to kill himself. Yesterday morning , between 0 and 10 o'clock , some of the furail heard some thing pstairs fall , but ylittle dreamed wlmait lwas. MrStreet's dau hter was just going u ) to Mr. Dix's room to sea about his breakfast and it was then discovered - covered that ho had shot himself , He lay stretched on the fluor , the revolver by his side , and a bullot-holo in his temple , the wound being suchu ms to dis- [ dace one eye somewhat. llowas already dead , and there remained nothing for the friens to do but to care tenderly for the remains of him whom in life they had esteemed so highly. Air. Dix was aged about 28 years and wan a young 1111111 of fine ability and edu- cation. He was the only remaining son of wealthy parents , yvlio live in Salem , Afass. , and upon whom the sad stew's tole 6raphed yesterday must fall with crushing force. Ho had lived in Council Bluffs fr about nine 'ears mid had all this time boon connected with the bank of which at the time of his death ho was the cashier. He was financially u tter- eated in the bank , being one of its stock. holders , and in all hits business affairs was looked upon as upright and honest as lie was enterprising and wise. In his social relations also ho was highly esteemed , always affable , gentlemanly and a true friend to lifa associates. A coroner's jury was empanelled but the taking of testimony brought out only about such facts as arc above narrted r there Booming no posaiblo cause for his taking lria own life , except that of temporary - rary insanity produced by disease. The coroner's jury consisted of David Jerman , Elias Soars , and O. F , Upitz. The witnesses who testified were Mrs. Lucy Street , who told of finding , Mr , Dix dead on the floor of his room , 'Mrs. S. Hilhis , a guest of the family , who board the fall , and starting for the room to Boo what the matter was entered right after Mrs , Street ; Mr , A , W , Street , who testified that deceased had boon sick at the house since Thursday , and that he had been out of his head , but that nothing serious was thought of it , as ho had been flighty before whets sick , Mr. Street slept in a room near Mr. Dias room , and within call. Several times during the night Mr , Dfx got up and seined rather bewildered but 'es- tordaY morning seemed much better and was reading the morning papers , when ho saw him about ( I o'clock , Dr. Macrae also testified as to the poor health of deceased.
