The Fnry of the Elements Still Unabated , The Tornado nt Mlllnrd nnd the Gnlo , In Onmhn. Tlio ntorin Friday was ono of the worst of the season. It scorns us if the elements were unable to get in their work nil nt once , nnd like n railroad in the busy season , they run several sections of n storm in ono night. Friday'nbout 8:30 : the rain bo- to fall nnd the thunder nnd lightning to play nbout the heavens in the fiercest stylo. Shortly before 0 o'clock there were four of the loudest peals of thunder over heard in this locality nnd the glare of the lightning was almost in cessant. The first of these electric strokes signalized n disaster to the Croighton house. The lightning ntruck the ornamental work which runs around the roof , on the southeast corner , knock * ing n small portion of it off. Splinters were hurled clear across the nvenuo to the vacant lot opposite , nnd nnd others were thrown into Mr. Brown's yard , on the east side of Thirteenth street. The air was odorous with sulphur , and n num ber of guests who wore sitting in the oOico experienced n schock and thought they had been struck. Mr. Donovan stood at the desk nnd ho too felt the shock. The telephone was burned up nnd entirely destroyed. The damage done to the woodwork was comparatively slight , but whore the lightning went to after hitting the roof is n question. Mr. Ball , of the B , & M , , who wan on his way to take iiart in the rehearsal nt Max Meyer's hall for the Thomas concert , was felled to the ground on the Eleventh street crossing. It is supposed that it wan the lightning which had collected on the wires along that street. Ho picked himself up nnd found his way into the hall , where Dr. Woodburn , olio of the chorus attended him. He had no recollection whatever as to what had hap pened and was hysterical , his nervous system being entirely overthrown by the shock. There was n largo audience at the opera hodso nnd n full chorus rehearsal for the Thomas concerts at Max Meyer's hall , besides sororal lessor entertainments , but the gas street lamps wore not lighted and the lightning interfered with the electric light so that after about Imlf-tmit eight the streets vroro in darkness and the hundreds of people who were out wore obliged to pick their way homo through the mud by the aid of the flashes of heat lightning. Another section of the storm came up between 4 nnd 5 n. in. , nnd was accom panied by a regular hurricane , which swept through the streets nnd shook the houses from ridgepole to foundation. Numbers of persons took refuge in their collars , thinking that n cyclone was nt hand , and in fact the weather did look alarming. For an hour before the hoav- pns wore obscured by dark clouds , except in the north , where there was n broad band of open sky which shone like burnished gold. It looked ns if the morning sun was about rising , and stood out in strange contrast with the dense black ness which reigned elsewhere. When the storm broke in earnest it was ( earful , and probably the most severe yet felt in the center of the city. The only damage reported is from No. 410 south Twenty- sixth strcotg where n house , twelve by thirty foot in size , owned by Mr. D. 1. Hayden , the carpenter , wan blown down. The house was built in March last , nnd was very solid and substantial. It hod but recently boon repaired , and n family moved in a week ago Saturday. About 4 o'clock Mr. Hayden woke up , his house being on the saino lot , and glancing out of the window saw that the well curb hud blown away. Ho started to dross himself , and before ho got through there was n rap at the door and ho was asked to civo refuge to the family from the other house , which was blown r in two in the middle , and both ends of r which plunged down into the collar at an t anglo , of forty-five degrees. The house was BO badly used up that Mr. Hayden says ho would not give $25 for It to-day. AT MILLAUI ) . The storm which struck Omaha at 4 a. ni. was n destructive one for Millard. where it blow down several houses and barns nnd did thousands of dollars wortli of damages. The storm moved from northwest tc southeast but ita violence did not lasl over 'five minutos. A now barn wortl 31,000 was .blown awivy on the farm o : Glaus Sump nnd Mr. Sump's dwelling was carried nbout thirty foot from iti foundation nnd turned around from right to loft. Half a mile southeast , on W. A. Bloom' ; farm n barn was unroofed , and the oas side blown out. Thomas Swift , whosi farm is adjacent to Bloom's , lost n gooc stable , which was blown out of sight. J wagon in the stable was smashed to kind Ijng wood , and the running gear , box oto. , scattered in little pieces for a dis ' anco of eighty rods. 'East of John Mosch'a place A numbo T1 ! of ( trees wore badly twisted , and fonci I posts were forced out of the ground am blown . Many farmers report thn I Jr away. in. 1.-.1I. . . . . -.J bruiaoi their cattle were badly cut and bjr the flying debris , but so far as know ] none were Killed , At Millard static : UiA upper portion of tho' windmill use * by the Union Pacific for pumping wnto was demolished , nnd blown away. POLICE PICK-UPS. A Conplo of Strangers Arrested By a Drnnken Man , An ItiHiinc Man With nn [ Inordinate Appetite. Yesterday was n rather quiet day , but two or three curious cases were taken in by the police. They asked him for his authority , but ho refused to give it , and actually got them as far ns the corridor of the court house , when ho fell down , and being nn able to got up , wns "run in" himself on the double charge of intoxication and impersonating an ollicor. His charjjo against the strangers was that they did not vote right at the last election. One man was arrested for indecent ex posure and an unmentionable offense , and two for intoxication. A Gorman , who has been lounging around the jail and making a nui sance of himself for several days , was yesterday discovered to bo insane nnd wns locked up.
