the latter in Union Pacific nuti Control
Pacific. After 1 o'clock there was n reac
tion of J to g per cent , but this was recov
ered by 2 o'clock , and there wan a further
advance on a few epecialtiea. ID the lust
hour the market gathered strength , niul
teveral stocks made the highest prices of
the day. Among the specialties Oregon
Navigation advanced 3J per cent to 1 > 5 ,
against 111J this morning. Aa compared
with last night , the advance on the general
list is J to 3J per cent.
The Evening Post nays : "Union Pacific
was higher an the strength of a favorable
decision of the firnt comptroller of the
treasury , in regard to the obligation of the
government to pay over in cash the
amounts due for mail and other govern *
ment service on the branch linns of that
road , without reference to any unsettled
claims against the Union Pacific railway
