Death ol Officer Sterling.
As announced in yesterday morn-
Ing's BKE , Sidney Sterling , ono of the
most active and best known officers of
the police force died at his homo in
this city Sunday night. Officer Ster
ling's death came as a surprise to
many , his illness bolng of only
week's duration , and ho having been
confined to his bed only a few days.
Puonmonla was the cause , and as it
often does , it done its work quickly
and surely. Officer Sterling waa born
In Toronto , Canada , in 1847 and had
therefore reached his thirty-sixth
year. Ho had roaldud in this city
about fourteen years , and for nearly
three years has been on the police
force. The funeral Rorvlcea are to beheld
hold thla forenoon at 10 o'clock at the
residence on the corner of Ninth
atroot and Avenue D. The police
will take ohargo of the funeral and
icrvo as pall bearers. The deceased
leaves a wlfo and ono child , for whom
