Death ol Officer Sterling. As announced in yesterday morn- Ing's BKE , Sidney Sterling , ono of the most active and best known officers of the police force died at his homo in this city Sunday night. Officer Ster ling's death came as a surprise to many , his illness bolng of only week's duration , and ho having been confined to his bed only a few days. Puonmonla was the cause , and as it often does , it done its work quickly and surely. Officer Sterling waa born In Toronto , Canada , in 1847 and had therefore reached his thirty-sixth year. Ho had roaldud in this city about fourteen years , and for nearly three years has been on the police force.
