rink , Saturday night , saw a very largo at
tendance , It being made the occasion of
the contest for the gold watch and chain
offered by Max Meyer & Bro , to the beet
lady ikater , The contestants were Mlts

Mlu Shlpman , Miss K1U Dunham and

track will b begun this week , BO as to
avoid Interruption with or from the asphalt
pavement laving. It will bo a good step.
Tne recent concert at the North Pres
byterian church WM not as well attended
as It should have been , or as It Justly de
terred. The programme , with a few ex
ceptions , wa * well rendered and gave good
satisfaction. Surprise WM expressed at
the degree of perfection by choruses in so
short a time of drill. The solo , duet and
quartette singers acq.ultte4 themselves
well. Altogether the concert was an en
joyable affair , and WM requested to be re
peatedon Tuesday evening , the 17th last.
The Saturday evening performance at
Turner hall was a satisfactory one In all
retpeeU , aad the attendanct quite good.
It was the occasion of a benefit to Mr.
Jack Hanley , manager of tbf gymnasium ,
and the programme was varied one ,
adapted to the occasion. The set-to be
tween Baby Barnes and Blllr McCans
was especially Interesting ; , and that be
tween coma of Hanley'a pupils and be
tween himself and Oole were al o viry
good.
-Miss Nettie Collins gave a delightful
tea party at her home on Oapltol avenni
en Friday night , complimentary to Miss
