for Iho friendless In Lincoln was
well attended by Iho ladlor.
The mooting was called to order by

legislature appropriated $5,000 for the

have a bid put In for the losation of
the Homo , No bid cnmo from r.tiy
city but Lincoln. They gave $2050.
This year the legislature gave ? 2COO
moro to complete the building. It Is
a two story brick with ntonn bite-
mont. Ids partly furulnhod. It is
to bo supported by contributions , as
there is no appropriation for running

Mrs. W. B. Slaughter , of Omaha ,
the superintendent of Iho Institution ,
mzt addreeaed the mooting. 8fio said
she entered thn homo as nnperinlend-
ent ihu lit of Juno , fjho gave a de
scription of the diUfcrnnt inmates who
entered Iho homo since she had been
theru , and told of the great good
already done. They have now twelve
inmitea. Suveral have bean Imlped a
few days , then homeo provided for
them , nml several children have been
adopted into f.ocul homes.

Tholadits agreed to furnish ono of
the rooms In tbo Homo and have it
called "Tho Omaha Room. "
Fifteen ladle * enrolled their names
as members , and several ladles agreed
to contribute to the furnishing of the
room who were not prepared tc join.
This is a work that has long been
needed and many feel that it U a grand
opportunity.
Now that tha state hu provided the
Homo , all the people hare to do is to
support it. Several donations have
been sent to Omaha. A fine chair
from Dewey & Stone , sixteen pounds
of seeds from John Erans to plant
their garden of two acres , and nine
teen chickens have been col
lected by Mrs. A. M. Olark from
residents of West Omaha. Mrs. S ilo-
mon sent a parlor lamp , and Mr. Ben
nett haa also sent a donation from his
store.
A mooting will bo called next week ,
and all ladles interested in helping
the friendless and homeless are urged
to attend.
A homolets woman from Omaha is
to bo received In the Homo next
week. She has been supported by

known oltizon of Lincoln , who killed
a batcher In Omiha norao time last
winter , and who was tried and found
guilty of manslaughter and. sen
tenced to the penitentiary for a term
of seven yo\r , arrived in the city last
evening , in the custody of Sheriff D.
N. Miller , of Djuglas county , and was
at once taken out to the prison. Afow
years ago Shotwoll was an In
dustrious young man , working on his
brother's farm , near Waverly. The
drndt ry of farm work became too
monotonous for him , and In an evil
hour ho removed to Lincoln , leaving
a young wife on his brother's farm ,
lu Lincoln ho became acquainted with
a oUts of young men , and spent , night
alter night in debauchery , neglecting
his wifo'itud children ard taking up
with strumpets. His wife proour-
od n divorce from him , and
then ho loft Lincoln M a vent to Omaha -
aha , where ho was employed in ono of
the hotels of that ti y One night
while fit tempting to put a drunken
man out of the hotel , a row ensued ,
which resulted in [ hooting and killing
the man. For this crime ho was tried
and sentenced , as above stated. His
brother who rotidca near Waverly Is
highly spoken of by his neighbor * , but
ho rcfuies in , any manner to become
instrumental in saving him from what
ho deems a inat pnnUhment.
