established a newspaper in Lansing ,
Iowa , and later in Dubuque , Iowa.
Mr Karberg was n member of the
staff of Gov. Gear , of Iowa , holding
the appointment of special aido-do
camp , with the rank of lieutenant col
onel of cavalry , for three years , n posi
tion which ho resigned when ho moved
to Nebraska in 1880. The colonel
has excellent endorsements from
many prominent statesmen and mili
tary ofllcors , amongst the latter , let
ters from Lieut. Gen. Sherman and

mill , Work was nuspendod last Friday
for repairs nnd was to bo resumed this
morning. During the Hovoro cold Inst
night the wheel was fruzo in the pit.
The onginuor began thawing it out by
the usual process when by somn acci
dent the oil caught tire nnd the Ihmcs
spread with most wonderful rapidity.
The fireman did splendid work nud
successfully diverted the fire from the
central portion of the city which in
cludes the great knitting mnnufaato-
