Stocks were irregular with frequent fluc
m tuation , and closing dull but generally
firm. The last prices as a rule wore i@2J
per cent below those of yesterday , Indiana ,
liloomington & 'Western , and Waboah pre
ferred beinc ; most prominent in the day's
decline. A report was circulated that the
Wftbash intended to Issue $20.000,000
worth oC stock , and stock was depressed
until an emphatic denial came from some
officers ot the company. Another story ,
equally as rnaliciuut and false , was that
an injunction was to bo obtained against
the Western Union forthcoming dividend ,
but this was squelched when it became
known that Gonld wonM repeat a ma
neuver practiced with great care , and cash
the dividend himself. The Gonld people
arc fttill very bullish on Western Union ,
and claim that by next July the earnings
will bo at least $7,000,000 , and that the
company is now earning 11 per cent on the
market vuluo of the stock. The general
features' which have influenced the ttock
market for the last two business days in
the direction of lower prices and nre etill
predominant , ia the railroad war and an
uncertainty when it will be ended.
