The Mystery of u Vorltnbio Suako in a Horse's Byo. Ntw York Sun. Many pnasongora on the Joraoy Gity ferry-boata ycatordny looked for "tho horaowith the analco in his oyo. " Ho was tound hitched to a box wagon in front of Dodge & Blina' factory , Jer sey City , yosterdayy.and the so-called swnko In Ilia eye did not aoem to in- convonicnco hltn 'at all. That the thing was there , there could bo no possible doubt. It looked like a bit of while string , about three inches long , in never ceasing move ment , twisting , doubling , contorting , and squirming. The lott eye gleamed with intelligence and malevolent fire , but the right ono , whore the parasite was , had only a palo opaleecont gleam In it. Chptoin Slilton McCaUerty , foreman of Mcsara. Dodge & Bliss' atablca , said : "I first caw the snake about three months ago , when the driver called my attention to it. It was then only about an inch long , and was black. Now , as you BOO , it has become three inches long , aud white. It does not at all distress the horso. " Mr. W. H. Arrrwamith was found at the American Veterinary College. Ho said : ' 'Tho disease is ono seldom aeon here. It is called in the books lilar'.iu oculi , and is very prevalent in warm climates in India , Australia and in Arabia. It is supposed to be duo to germs taken into the body when the animal is feeding upon grass in low , marshy ground. The germ or eggs of the parasite are developed into the active life of a worm , and that worm penetrates into different parts of the body , sometimes to the eye , some times to the brain , sometimes interior organs. But it has boon so seldom seen either in Europe or hero that comparatively little is known of Its progress , developments or roaulta. There have been , I bellovo , but four or five cases reported in both Europe and this country. When developed , as it is in the eye of the horse of Dodge & Bliss , it is a parasite unite worm , varying from ono to three inches in length and about as thick as an or dinary pin. While in the aqueous humors of the eye it is in continual motion , When I examined it this morning by means of the ophthalmo- cope I found it in the anterior or aqueous chamber of the eyo. It was very active. The cornea of the eye was somewhat opaque , and the iris somewhat distended. By careful ob servation wo could discern a granular surface upon the anterior face of the crystalline lens , The hone otherwise was in perfect health. Ho works and does not show any apparent inconve nience , with the exception of a cer tain nervousness during examination of the oyo. The activity of the para site is such at present that it is impos sible to see whether it has a head or tail , or what its internal construction may be. But , from microscopic ob servation , we will probably bo able to discover head , tail and alimentary canal. According to Porclval's Hippo- pathology and Williams' Veterinary Surgeon , oven the sex of these parasites - sites is clearly discernible under the microscope , I do not buliovo that this parasite is over found in human bo- ime ; , but only in gratis eating animals that have grazed in low , inarahy ground ; and that it is in the eye is only a matter of accident in the courco of its penetration of thu body of the horse , " Capt , McCalferty says that the hnreo was pastured upon the oort of ground spoken of by Mr. Arrowsmith , about u year and a halt ago. Correspondence , Drours' Journal , In the order of size theru are five recent importations , which are celling for actual UBO for two or three times the average of American hones. Thu smallest is the Coacher , The Ooaoher.i are a distinct breed of recent English origin , bred long enough to make their progeny dis tinct , uniform Mid easily matched , They are brown , black or bay , about 1,400 pounds , 1H hands high , long bodied , with long sloping quarters , long arched necks , fleet , ' capabla and powerful. They mature very early , and at three years old are In great re quest for the city market oy buyers who pay from $400 to ? COO per pair and sell them tot twioo as much , They are a cross of the Cleveland Imy and thoroughbred , mid may ha n- produced in this country by a crois of the Cleveland bay and Morgnn. When Virginia imported the thoroughbred , Now England imported the Cleveland , and laid iho fminda tion of a stock in the north tnicu as valuable as that in the south. A f re h infusion of the Now England Cleve land * , much smaller and faster than of old , will give us the horse wn need. The Norman is n gray or black , six teen and n half handu , 1,700 to a,000 pounds ; ho is blocky , compact , close ribbed , short necked , with high head , clear eye , fine ear , expanded nostrils , broad breast , powerful legs and im mense muscles. Ho is descended from sirus as well as damn I hat are worked. In Franco the horses are all kopl entire , and those of most value are kept for breeding , but are still put to hard work , and made and kept strong , hardy , healthy , quiet aud well broken. Like produces like , and the stock is the most powerful , docile aud useful in Frances The Norman is the general favorite ; Imported morn than all other horses , aud liked butter and hotter the moro ho in known. Ufa colta sell bettor the moro there are of them. A shipper has just paid from $22f > to $300 each for a carload at Bloomingtou. He Is the favorite. The English draft , or Sliiro horse , is n black or. bay about seventeen hands high , 1,800 pounds , short , blocky , compact , heavy boned and muscle , back short , shoulders aud loins long and powerful , legs largo and firm ; a horse of intelligence and docility , of oven temper , a ready and agreeable worker , of prodigious strength and great endurance. Ho crosses well with other stock and sells high. Ho is a treasure. Bo sure and got him. The Clydesdales are a strain of the English draft horse , of recent origin in Scotland , descended from a black horse of extraordinary symmetry and vigor and of special potency in trans mission. They are black , bay or brlndle , with ankles and face often white , about seventeen hands , and 2,000 pounds , bodica long and remark ably cylindrical from end to end ; legs large , rsund and hairy , often having a sort of mane on the fetlocks covering the hoofs. They are remarkably quiet and docile , even workers , staunch and mighty. The Resurrectio Was a miraculous operation. No one thinks of raising the dead tliete time ? , though some desperately close to dcath'a door hnvo been completely restored by BURDOCK BLOOD BITTEKS to genuine nnd lasting health. PERSONAL JOURNALISM. A Hoosler Editress Assailing the Ueputatlons of Gentlemen of Lafayette. A special from Lafayette , Ind. , to The Cincinnati Enquirer says : Society airclos in this usually proper city are In a state border'ng upon n ferment , and there aro' several very worthy la dies and very excellent gentlemen hero whoso indignation knows no bounds. The cause of this abnormal condition lies in the published opinion of the charming lecturer and writer , Mrs. Helen M. Cougar , whoso editor ial opinions are given to the world in her temperance and woman's aulfr.igo paper , Our Herald. The story is a mixture of temperance , scandal , politics nnd bad blood , and is to-day the all-absorblngmorsol rolling around the gossipy tongues of this community. Several well known cit izens abandoned the republican ranks and supported the democratic candi date for state senator , very much to the disgust and disappointment of Mrs. Qougar , who was very earnest in her support of the republican nominee , Oapt. DoWitt Wallace. The very clover captain wai defeated , and that , too , in this county , which usually gives from 600 to 1,000 republican majority. Mrs. Cougar , above her published signature , reads the riot act to three gentlemen whom she singles out , in the following savory manner : 1. Ono of those men for years of fended the morals of the Star city by openly parading himself with a woman of disrepute , whom ho cup- ported , but finally doterted to marry a woman altogetherjibova him socially aud morally. To-day ho is not noted for brains , morally , or great worth , and is a fair specimen of those men in every town who are so fearfully troubled about the voting of immoral women ohwuld women obtain sufTraqo , [ A. marked oopy of this was cent to the wife of the gentleman , and , the result is a dieordorod homo , with ovi- donuo of domestic infelicity. This gentleman and his nife are members of one of the first families of the Wabash valley , HO f&r as respootabil- ity , wealth and social position uru con cerned. ] 2. Another of this blatant tria as sumes great respectability ; but the " " caused wine din- "danger signal , by - nerd and midnight saloon revels , is prominent , and his fine trappings are , many of them , unpaid for , and what was once a life of promise is rapidly fulling away into that cf physical , mental , moral and financial disease. 11 o fcaru that women itill desert homo for politics , but falls to turn the glass aud note the fact that ut homo is u neat of little ones often deserted for the giddy dance by the wife and mother ( whoso act this father encourages ) and house duties are neglected to such an extent as to bo a matter of notorious comment. This man greatly fears the associa tion of men and women at the polls , and sees and encouregcs without blush and shame his wife wrapped in the arms of strange men while engaged iu the dizzy waltz , The third is characterized as a man divorced from his wife ; cause , inhu man treatment. Like a thunderbolt this explosion has fallen upon the gentlemen alluded to , The air is full of recriminations , and all sorts of immoral charges are made. Private characters have been aisailod , and there is a prospect that some startling details may ba given tc the public.
