Governments were Irregular.
Speculation un the Stock Exchange to
day was aotive aud irregular , but in the
main bullish and prices consequently
above Halurday'a closing figures. The
market opened generally weak and i@lj
per cent below Saturday's closing quota ,
tlons-tholutter in Dalawaro k Hudson.
Alter further slight decline In early
trade the market became buoyant , aud
shortly after 11 recorded an advance
ranging from | /3i / per cent. Northwest
ern common sold up S per cent , preferred
2i per cent ; Union Pacitic 2 per cent ,
Wabash preferred ' 2per cent , Illinois
Central 2J per cent , Missouri Pacific and
Omslu SJ per cent , Canada Southern 2
per cent nud Hock Island ] J per cent.
The tone after this became weak and
about noon n reaction of i@l | per cent
took place , in which Delaware , Lackawa-
na & Wcbtern , Louisville & Nashville ,
Northwestern and Michigan Central were
most conspicuous. Subsequently i@lper
cent of this was recovered , the latter . ; t.
Paul , but the list again fell off 2 per cent
in St. Paul preferred and J@li3 in the re
mainder of the list. The market during
the List hour was buoyant and advanced
J@3 per cent to the close. These leading
the advance were Minneapolis & St. Louis
preferred ano common , Omaha , Missouri
Palfic , St. Paul , Minneapolis & Manitoba
and St. Paul. The advance was caused
by the report that the railroad troubles in
the northwest would soon be adjusted ,
having been left to arbitration. The mar
ket closed strong at the highest prices of
the day and at an advance on the day's
transactions of 1@4J per cent St. Paul
Minneapolis & Manitoba , St , Paul , Minn
eapolis & St. Louis common and pieferred ,
Oregon & Transcontinental and Omaha
being the moat conspicuous therein.
