The jubilee fund of the Congregational
Union of England and Wales now eicuods

Last week was celebrated the two
hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the
First Parish church of Charleston , Maes.
The Kev. F. L. Norton , of All-Saints
cathedral , Albany , has given a brass pul
pit , n brass eagle lectern and black walnut
desks to Christ church , Norwich ,
Sntyer Mr. Norton is well known in this
city , having bean formerly the assistant
minister of St. Thomas' church.
The programme for the week of prayer ,
January 7-1' ! , 1833 , issued by the Evan
gelical alliance indicates the following
topics : Thanksgiving , confession , prayer
For the church universal , for families , for
the nations , nnd for iiiiHaions. Special refer
ence is also made to education , to intern-
Iterance , nnd to the opium traflic.
A special service was held on the last
Sunday in October in the old Moravian
parftonogo , nt Now Dorp , Staten Island ,
Un the day following tbo old structure ,
which had been utauding two hundred
vonrs , was demolished , and a handHoma
now parsonage , the gift of Willinm II.

A missionary steamer , whoso hull nnd

During the Roml-centonnlal services held
at the Ithaca Mothodiot conference recent
ly , four divines , who had been In'the mln-

Among them the Rev. James Irwin , for
merly of Oswego , stated that he began
preaching In 1831 , on a circuit covering 355
miles , nnd that for his first year's favors ho
received the then munificent sum of 910 ,

The llov , Georcn O. Barnes , the moun
tain evangelist of Konhuky , is holding re
vival meetings in Connecticut. Ho says
the chief purpoao of his Northern mlfslon
is to overthrow the gloomy gonpel which

prince of Hnrt > , and carried out by men

The wealthy Methodists of Philadelphia ,
who nro building the now Trinity church ,
have planned an extraordinary edifice , unlike -
like any other on oirth. The now build
ing will hnvo under one roof tbo church
auditorium , the Sunday school , the dinlna
room , nud all the conveniences that ad
vanced architectural ingenuity can sug
gest , or liberal loxpcndltuco procure. The
style la Gothic , with a profusion of stained
glass windows. Ono majestic polychro
matic window is to bo twenty feet wide

000 roubles upon her country women to bo
used in giving medical training to these de
sirous of becoming physicians. There are

KtisMft , attended by over 60,000 pupils.
Since 18G1 special courses have been
opened for the training of young women
as toacherp , while facilities have been
granted to women not only to obtain some
of the advantages of n university educa
tion'but also to qualify themselves for the
practice of medicine and surgery.
It is complained In Pittaburg that the
present system of "cramming" pupils for
the high school , tiea down not only the pu
pil but the teacher to a skeletonized form
