If it were possible for the excitement nt
the oil exchange to be greater than it was
Saturday , then to-day it must ha\o
reached the pinnacle of fren/.y. The
lobby was packed all day with eager curi-
oiity mongers and pikers. It ba.nmo nee-
nssary to call in the service of the police
to keep the passageway clear. The mar
ket opened strong , with salea at 1 23 , but
quickly declined to 1 25 ; then advanced to
35 , the highest point of the day. The
market then dropped etoadily until the
close , when 1 21 was bid. The tranxac-
lions were th i largest ever known here ,
and aggregated 11 375,000 barrels. Among
the speculators at the exchange to-d y
were a number of ladies.
