is origin in the depredations of a cor-
; ain gang of outlaws under the leader
ship of the famous cowboy familiarly

alters had taken up their abode in the
San Simon Valley , a beautiful section
of country in the extreme southern
part of the territory , iu what la now a
portion of Oochisa county. These

nud claimed to bo "ranchers" or cat
tle men. At the northern end of the
Sxn Simon Valley is thu town of Cali
fornia city , a place of several hundred
population. It contained throe stores ,
u greater number of saloons , and some
honest and respectable oititens , The
town , however , was often in the hands
of the cowboys , and woo to a "tender
foot" a term applied to all new com
