large demand for these goods this winter ,
and with apparently good reason.
The grain innrket which 1ms been drag.
ging heavily for tometime , lias become
gradually firmer and made considerable
advance * , anil closed strong with prices
welt msuined. This applies to nil de
scriptions. Corn was much more in favor
witu buyers than other detiriptlons , and
those nre indication ) ) that old corn may ba
considerably oversold.

terially improved. Scarcity of nue grades

grades , but the advance wa * not so marked

advance of Ic has been obtained.
The market for colfea ha ? boon weak nnd

porters ; the comaumptivo demand were
light.

duce the purchases of the sea market wan

The lumber trade , was fairly active with
no material change in prices. Building
if being carried on with Rome activity , and

The furniture trade was dull and col
lections were touiewhat quieter. Near by
and Bouthern buyers were well represented.

are firm. Manufacturers are bimy , mostly

In leather there wai a tair demand in all
grades. Tne market is penerally iirm and
the jobbing trade is fairly active.
American pig iron was quiet , with little
or no business reported. Prices nro iirui
and deliveries on old contracts continue
