SILVER XVJEDDING.
A Pleasant Surprise Forty to ilr. and
Mrs , J , Mnthluaen.
A very pleasant surprise party was
given , Mr. nnd Mrs. J. Matllioacn at
their residence on South llth street ,
Saturday nitht ; , the occasion being tbe
silver wedding day of the host nnd
hostess. '
The party consisted of about thirty
couples , who assembled at Mr. and
Mra. T. A. Jensen's home , from which
aboub 8:30 p. m. , the procession ,
headed by the U. P. band , proceeded
the residence of the Mathioaen's ,
which they took by otorm on the drat
assault. Meantime a train of pro
visions had arrived anil tho' ' tables
were spread with an excellent lunch
and plenty bf wine , both 6f which re
ceived just attention. At the con
clusion of the supper Mr. Polio made
a short speech on behalf of the p&rty
and presented Mr. and TVfrs. Mathio-
eon with an elegant , solid silver tea
nnd dinner sot , beautifully engraven
as follows :

Mr. Mathieson was so taken by cur-
prise that ho could bnly respond by
briefly thanking all his-friends. Soon
after Mr. Schoubo made a little i address -
dross on tho'ups and downs of.marrlod
life , and closed with a toast to 'tho
bride and groom of twenty-five years
o.
The remainder of the evening was
pleasantly spent.The Danish quar ;
tetto gave several beautiful songa and
the enjoyment was protracted until
midnight when tlio invading party re
tired without the loss of a. single one ,

and first regular meeting for the season
