The stock market this morning was ir
regular on a reduced volume of buslnes ,
the advances tn rates for mot ay yesterday
having had a tendency to restrict trading.
ft At the opening prices declined , tut at first
4 call the temper U speculation changed and
an advance ranging from | to 14 per cent ,
in the general list was noted. The up
ward movement was led by Northern Pa
cific , Reading , Delaware , Lackawanna &
Western and St. Paul k Omaha. Outside
of the active ll.t Memphis & Charleston
rose 5 per cent. , Pullman Palnco Car 2 per
cent. , and Canada Southern 2j per cent.
After midday the market was dull and
weak , price * showing a decline of 4 ; to 1J
per cent. , the latter in Delaware , Lacka
wanna & Western. The weakness con
tinued till about 1:15 , prices further do-
clinlng J(3ij ( l > er cent. , and the lowest
prices of the day were then made. An ad
vance of i@13 per cent , succeeded , the
Northwestern in the lead. During the lait
hours of business the market was firm , an I
a gradual advance In prices was noted.
The principal activity was In Union Pa-
ciSc , coal shares , St , Paul & Om ilia , Nor
thern Pacific , Texas Pacific and North-
western. St. Paul & Omaha advanced on
favorable reports from Saratoga ,
