The problem is of such difficult solu
tion , that wo may very well ask , with
anxiety , what shall bo done with the

ilization , of business , and even of the
Creator. .

for hundreds of miles , wo looked in
vain to aeo the largo flocks of cattle
that wo had expected to ceo. "There
are no cattle in the territory , " was the
reply wo received from several ntock
men , While this may not bo liter
ally true , and while there no doubt
are many flocks grazing in eotno ace
lions of the territory rcinnto from tlio
railroad , it is very evident that the
number ia but a mcioty cf what could
bo graced. Hundredu of thousands oi
acres of the finest grass are going to
waste bocauao there uro no cattle to
coimumo it. The demand for beet
has been so great that stock has been
sold off very closely , and it may require
quire several years bcforo we got back

however unpleasant the contempla

and wo are told there is no immediate

Territory traversed by the traveler
without spuing the Indians. Instead

expectations are disappointed when
you pass over 200 miles through this

derailed , your scalp ia not molested , '
your slumbers are not disturbed by

true there are civilized Indians resid
ing in the small towns through which
the railroad passes. They are , how
ever , engaged in business ; many of tl
them well educated , and they have no
time , like many of our own people , to
resort to the station at train time ;

The Indian Territory In general Is
level. The Wichita Mountains rluo to
the height of 800 feet. Their peaks
