This week , in spite of the fact that there continues to be quite a falling elf at a number of the leading cities , is still on the whole a fairly favorable one. The aggregate clearings of the week just closed as compared with the corresponding week of last jear show a percentage of increase of D H per cent against a pircentago of increase of 2.5 per cent last week nnd one of 4,5 per cent of the previous week. At the regular monthly mooting of the school board last night there were present all the members. The reading of the journal was dis pensed with. Several applications for positions as teachers nnd assistants > vero received and referred to the committee on teachers nnd text books. From tax-payers of Sixth ward , asking for the appointment of E. S. Clonnana as janitor of the Sixth ward school. From janitor of tlio Lake addition school , stating that it wan iinllh foruao until repaired. .Referred. From Frank Fitzpatriclc , miporin ( undent elect of publia schools , that tlio Loavonworth bowl of education declines to release him from his con tract. tract.Mr. Mr. Fitzpatrick accordingly offered ud his resignation , which was accept ed. ed.Tho The committee of public property and buildings made n verbal report as to letting contracts for several items of work in progress. The committee on claims reported favorably on n number of bills , in cluding the janitor's pay roll for July , $201.2f > , the total amount being 81,012.00. lleport adopted nnd pres ident and secretary authorized to pay the same. An additional pay roll of $3,203 was presented , including the expenses of work on the high school grounds and similarly disposed of , McShauo and Anderson voting against It. Tlio grading is nil finished and it only remains to lay the walks and sow blue grass on the new ground. The president and secretary were authorized to draw a warrant for the payment of $2,511 88 semi-annual in terest on $50,000 of school bonds. The secretary made n verbal report of various repairs needed before the schools reopen , and asked that a com- mitto on buildings bo appointed. Mr. McShano said all the standing committees should bo appointed. The president said that as it was desirable for certain ollicurs of the board and the oflicorshad not all boon elected lie thought he could not ap point the standing committees until the board was fully organized.
