STOCKS.
The stock market to-day was active.
Sale * aggregated over 400,000 Bhares. At
Ihe-.opening a weak tone prevailed and
prices declined 1@1 per cent , but this
was soon followed by buoynncy nud the
decline was more tlmn recovered. After
midday , however , the market became weak
again nnil under rcnllzition salca prices
were forced down rapidly , mul although
there were uo\cn\l rallies in the nflernuon
the mnrket cloned with the lowest quota
tions generally current. Pacific Matt was
tha weakest stock mid led the decline.
