The weather throughout the week has
been cold and unseasonable , cloudy , heavy
rain ] and liijh winds prevailing , present
ing a gloomy and unpropilloua aspect for
trade in general. Aside from this , the
farmers ore yery busy just now with their
planting , whenever the weather will per
mit , which tends to make buiinesH dull in
thn interior towni and village ? , and in
that way affects the jobbing trade quite a
perceptible falling off has been expe
rienced In mail orders , and through the
traveling salesmen and while the volume
of business has been considerably lisa ,

Iron ia weak , though in spite of the
fact that the demand for iron is very light ,
the laboiera at the mills have made a de
mand for an increate of 15 per cent on
wages ,

tatives of the Amalgamated Iron and
Steel aiuociation , ending without satisfac
