urday the defense called the prisoner

eye was black and my lip was cut.
Then I told my wife I waa going up
town again to'aco Frank Graves ; that
I was going to the ongin'o house and
then I went to the engine house.
Q. How long did you stay at your
house ? ,
A. About half an hour.
Q. How did you go from your house
to the engine house ?
A. Wont back to 10th street and
right up to the engine house ,
Q. 'What did you do up there ?
A. I saw Peter Galligan sitting there
and I said , "Whore ia Graves ? " Ho
Haid. "Ho is dead. " I said. "What ,
is Prank Graves dead ? " Ho sai'l ,
"No , " the man you had the trouble
with ia dead. " I turned to Ponzoll
and I said , "Is thai ao ? " and ho aaid
yea and I turned and walked out.

A. No , sir.
Q. Where did you go from there ?
A. I walked out of the engine house
intending to go gome , but I thought I
would go down to the house of Nellie
King where I had loft some friends

A. I had loft there Frank Young ,
Minnie Calm and George Hall ; also

do it , and I woke him up and talked
with him thoro.

that ho asked Jerome Penzell
any questions , He had n bottle of
champagne in his pocket at. the
tlmo of the row. Did not pay or
Authorize the payment of any money
to Nellie King to leave town. Never
talked to Galligan about Frank
Graves' departure. Did not see Hammer -
mor fall. Don't know what became
of Graves after leaving the saloon.
Didn't throw his arm over Graves'
shoulder. Did not say that ho wan
going back to got satisfaction.
With this the testimony closed , and
Mr. Bennett began the argument i'qr

Mr , Charles Brush , the inventor of
ho light , and Mr. George W. Stock-
oy , general manager of the main com
pany , made a tour of the sedludod
itroota and alleyways , to BOO the effect
of the light whore it reached only by
oflection , and they were nroll satisfied
with the result. They say they found1

reached where tho' light is not sufll-
ciont to enable people to got about in
safety. They are satisfied that the

tnd Lake streets. The end sought to
