The impatience of the parents uf
; ho young lady over the long and
ruitlcsa visits of the chronic caller was
pictured in comia colors some years
igo by a funny writer. It seems that
t was midnight. The young man had
'arowollod himselt out , and Emolino
lad locked the door and was untying
lor shoo when her mother came down
stairs with a bcdquilt around her , and
said :
"Wanted to creep uptairs without
ny hearing you , eh ? Dind't think I
enow it was an hour after midnight ,
did you ? "
The girl made no reply , and the
mother continued :
"Did ho propose this time ? "
"Why , mother ! " exclaimed the
daughter.
"You can 'why , mother,1 all you
want to , but don't I know that ho has
joon coming hero for the last year ?
Don't I know that you've burned up
at leaat four tons of coal courting
around hero ? "
The girl got her shoes off , and the
mother stood in the stair door am
asked.
"Kmolino , have you gotnnyuril ? '
"I guess so. "
"I guess you haven't. I just wisl
that fellow mth false teeth and a mole
on hia chin would como sp irking mo.
Do yon know what would happen ,
"No.1
"Well , I'll tell you. Ho'd come to
time in sixty dftjs or he'd get out ol
this mansion like a goat jumping for
sunflower seeds. "
And Emulino Mcnt to bed hugging
this thought to her bosom.
Occasionally such visits become so
burdensome that the young lady talks
to the young man herself At least
tlioy had such a girl out in Colorado.
She had been receiving tlio attentions
of a young man for about a year , but
becoming impatient at his failure to
bring matters to a crisis , she resolved
to ascertain his intentions. When ho
next called she took him gently by the
oir , led him to n scat , and said ;
"Nobby , you've boon foolin * 'round
this claim tur iniirhty near a year , an *
hov never yit shot off your mouth on

THE INTERNATIONAL PARK.
Outllno of the Scheme of the "Palls
Reclamation and Improvement
Company.
Toronto Globe.
One of the many suggestions of our
late popular governor general , Lord
DufTorin , was that the governments
of the Dominion of Canada and
of the statp of Now York should by
united action purchase and expropri
ate the land adjacent to Niagara
Falls , and form and control an inter'
national park for the purpose of preserving
serving in its natural beauty and
grandeur the scenery at the falls , and
at the same time of making points of
interest accessible to the tourists and
others without the imposition of the
extortionate charged which are now
the rulo. Acting on that suggestion
negotiations took place between the
two governments. A bill was introduced
ducod into tho' New York legislature
at two sessions , but was thaown out ,
and consequently America coopera
tion is out of the question. At the
session of 1880 an not was passed
through the Ontario legislature em
powering the minister of-public works
of the Dominion to take lands along
the banks of the Niagara liver for the
purpose of forming such a park. How
ever , the Dominion minister of public
works has not exercised the powers
conferred upon him , and it is now
thought that private enterprise should
take the project in hand , and carry
it out in a manner as nearly as possi
ble similar to the original scheme.
For that purpose a company is being
formed of gentlemen resident on Eng-
kind , Montreal , and Toronto , who
iavo a bill before the legislature aak-
ng that the powers conferred npon
.ho ; ninistor of public works shall be
; ransforred to tpem. The bill received
ts first reading in the house on
Thursday.
The territory propose , to bo ac
quired extends from the head of the
rapids above the burning spring to a
) omt below the whirlpool , about sov-
: n hundred yards below the Clifton
louse embracing about three and a
ialf miles of river frontage , and an
area , about 140 acres. It is pro-
losed to remove all the unsightly
itructures at present standing , but ro-
nining the Table Itock house , the
Museum , and the Clifton house ,
hitherto the point below the falls has
) con so inaccessible that few have
) oen able to realize the sublimity of
the scenery at that place , but , to
make it easy of access , a tramway ,
with a guago of two feet , to bo run by
steam or other power , is to bo con
structed to the water's edge. It will
jo so concealed by occasional clumps
of foliage , tunnels , or rock erections
as not to disfigure the beauty of the
ocality. By having a guaio of two
eel , it is hoped that all difficulties of
construction and otfgnaes to the eye
will bo avoided , and the people con
voyed BO that fuller and nearer views
of the whirlpooj and rapids can buaf-
'urded- views which now cost so
much fatigue and risk. TJioro will
i'so be another tramway from the
turning spring to the south of the
whirlpool. Below the Clifton house
t will bo 'about three-hundred feet
> ack from the edge of the cliff. The
resent carriage way will also bo
iiovod back , so that the annoyance of
ncessant driving and dust will bo re
moved. Accomodations will be pro
vided for leisurely visiting various
points of interest , the charges for
transport being moderate. To give
; pod views of the locality observato
ries ot iron will be erected , and fitted
vith elevators , balconies , and plat *
'arms. ' An inclined plane wilj bo
constructed at Table Hook to move
visitors up and down the bank , and to
enable them to go under the shoot of
water at the falls. The present staircase -
case will bo dispensed with , and steps
cut in the rock for people to reach the
) ottom of the gorge free of charge.
The foregoing are the principal
works to bo undertaken , but in addi
.ion the grounds will bo thoroughly
underdrained and laid out in walks
and drives , and made as attractive as
Kssiblo to visitors. "Tho erection of
mo or inoro hotels similar to the relo
cated beach hotels of the United
status may also bo undertaken , uswyll
as the placing of a small steamer on
the rivur. Restaurants at suitable
jjointH , and shops for the sale of fancy
> oods will bo erected. Accomodution
will bo provided for picnic parties ,
and for the cat rying on at them of all
sorts of games and athlotip sports ,
vhich will add to the attraction. It
s the intention of the company to
> eautify the grounds as much as pos
sible and inako a visit to the falls a
source of pleasure.
