For the most part , society cir cles do not ficuin aorry that the season of rest is BO near nt hntid , 'i'ho winter lias been one of unusual liveliness in Omaha , nnd the largo number of balls , parties , hops and receptions Imvo boon participated in more generally nnd moro generously than for many ycara past. In this respect Omaha lias not only kept pace with other cities further east but has sur passed many of her sisters. The week closing has boon marked by several very pleasant affairs in local circles. On Wednesday evening the KNTHF. NOUS club held the last of their winter aim- HOU of private Germans at tbo resi dence of Mr. W. II. Ijams on Leaven- worth street. The membership ni the club is limited to twelve , Dad eleven couples wore present to enjoy the hos pitalities of their host and hostess nnd participate in what proved to bo the pkasantcst and handsomest Gor man over given under the club management. The elegant and commodioUs parlors which Mr. Ijams has recently added to his resi dence wore covered with canvass and furnished a floor which loft nothing to bo desired. Shortly after 8 o'clock the strains of Hoffmann's orchestra , which was stationed in the hall , called the dan cers to the opening waltz and the German began. Mr. J. C. Sharp and Miss Carrie Ijams leading out in the opening figure. The favors for the evening , of which there were eight sots , were unusually beautiful' Amongj the most noticeable wore a sot. of pond lillios sot on plncques , and fans deco rated with figures from life by Miss Lou Ijams It is not too much to say that handsomer memen toes of an evening's enjoyments have never been given in Omaha. .At twelve o'clock a delicious supper was served , after which dancing was re sumed , the closing figure being com pleted shortly after two o'clock. The seventh annual masquerade of that popular social organization , the Standard club , which took place on Wednesday evening , was the most brilliant in the history of the club. About sixty couples participated , allen on masque , and the display of cos tumes was the richest and most varied ever seen in Pmahn. The music was furnished by the orchestra of the Musical Union , and was fully up to the average of that well trained body of musicians.
