On last Monday evening UIOHO who
attended tlio pcrfornmnco given by
the Lciivitt minstrel tronpo in Do-
linnoy'fl Opera House , lind nnothor op
portunity of having tlioir mind joggled
as to the dcmiuid for n now oporn
liouso in Council Binds. The homo
was crowded nnd ao was the fltajo ( , in
fact there was not room enough on
the latter to accommodate the entire
company during the introductory
part of the entertainment. Every
stranger who visita our city and at
tends the theatre oxprcaacs very giont
surprise for our incapacty in the way
of place of amusement , and it is a
well-known nnd recognized fact that
the better class oi citizens do not at
tend tor the very reason they dislike
the accommodations furnished. A
city of the alr.o of Council Blullfl in
certainly in a position to demand
something better than the upper story
of n livery stable for an cporn house.
The city could allbrd to build one for
the reputation it would giro us , if for
nothing oloo. With a now opera
liouso , a now government building
nnd water-works wo can wrap our
cloak of importance around us and
defy competition in western Iowa.
Wo' understand that Hon. J. J.
"Brown oilers to take half the Block in
a sixty thousand dollar opera house , if
ho can got the balance taken outside.
Ho should have no difllculty in secur
ing this. Lot the sharcH bo put nt an
amount to reach oven those of moder
ate means , The iibovo amount ouuht
to build a very line house here. Wo
hope that before the year 1882 oxpircti
Brown's opera liouso will be an au
complishcd reality ,
