Everyone had cut Ins dinner short to catch the train , bnt the hour arrived five ton- twenty minutes passed , nnd then everybody wondered wlmt had hap pened. The ticket fgont was also the telegraph operator. Ho was n young fellow of about 20 , ill-grained nnd supcrcillious , but impatience overcame the fear of him , and n woman stopped to the window and asked : "Is the train lute ? " "Urn ! " ho prowled in reply. "How late is it ? " "Urn ! " That finished her , and she resumed lier Be.it. Five minutes more slipped away , and a vorysoluinn-looking man , carrying a very solemn-look ing carpet bag , advanced from his corner and began : "Train is late , isn't it ? " " " ' "Yes.
