Things hero look fnvornblo for n finil cjo.ining up of this sucond chnptor in Iho Arizoun outbrwik of 1831. It is earnestly to bo hopotl thit thcro will 1)0 no continuation of the story. Uor- nard is settling down nt Ruckpr. Ho is being rationed for n month nnd hns about two hundred men with him. "Ilnir Trigger John" ( John Gibbon ) lias just como in , somewhat disguitcd. Ho vras hired na a guido and scout , fcut Booms to hnvo struck out imlo * pondontly , nnd left the militnry. Nevertheless , ho thinks the Indians are thoroughly whipped nnd will not return from Mexico , BSVO in small lianas , for some time. All the press agents nro leaving this locality. Me- Oowau of the Now York Herald nnd Pinnerty of the Chicago Tiin6 lefttwo or three days ago. MoKonzio seems to bo cloaini ; up the ball. Kolton , As * sistnnt Adjutant-General of the Divi sion of the Pacific , pissed through hero en route for Thoman yoitorday , and is to confer with McKoiizio there to-morrow. Sanford has boon ordered to make out his report of the pursuit of the Ohiricahuaa , andthothroa extra rog'imcnts now in the Department of Arizona will soon bo looking for trans portation homo. UBX1CAK TKAM-STERfl A VCIBAXCK. Therois onovety serious evil that has thus far been silently endured In this -campaign , but which haa given risp tone no end of delay and miscalculation. It is the system of freighting in this part of Arizona. It is done almost entirely by Mexican teamsters , who are utterly untrustworthy. The Mex icans are slower than a river of sand , hare no idea ot military necessity , are procrastinating , cowardly , and will fully demand escorts over the safest routes. They will not stir without them , and in spite of all contract and agreement persist in obeying their own lazy will , This should bo care fully looked after in every future gov ernment contract , nnd pithortho Mex ican teamster bo specially cxcoptod , or else a heavy forfeit hold over the contractor in case of the least delay duo to their employment. AHIZONA'S INDIAN Arizona has not. yet seen her last Indian campaign. She has thousands of the oldest natives upon the con tinent. They iaro being rapidly cor- raled by the encroaching Yankee , and "they must go. " They themselves "know it and are beginning to'grow Anxious. But they will not go with out n struggle , nnd when that'otrugglo ' comes it will not bo like the two brief lessons given to the territory this past autumn. If then , at that time the military must again depend upon bases of operations to bo nastily pro visioned by moans of Mexican team- atorr'tho greatest hardships will bo encountered' , nndporhaps' aonig'sdrious disasters. Diiririg the past week no less than seven escorts hnvo bdon fur i : nished to trains with Mexican team sters , and all bearing government supplies. Without exception the escorts have boon ready when ordered , and OB universally the Mexicans have boon exasperatingly late. They dall ied two whole days before they oven commenced to load the important h train which was to boar provision * to Bernard's command. This command already over the Mexican border , was. to bo out of rations on the 14th. It was not till the llth that the Mexican began to load. It took thorn all day. At 4 o'clock they pushed out , but did not reach Dos Cabozas , only fifteen miles distant , till 0 a. m. on the 12th. AN EXASPKHATED ESCOUT. In the mean time they halted twico. At Dos Cabczas they turned to their mules and true to their names com- niencod-to gruaso their wheels , Hero it seems , after having refused to move farther that day , the commanding oiiicor of the escort , Captain Field , had to take things into his own hands. Ho arrested the train-master , himself a Mexican , disarmed the teamsters and then put them on the road under guard. In spite , however , of his best oflorts , ho was mot by McLollun on the 13th only ten or twelve miles beyond - yond Dos Oabezas and still in great difficulty with his train. MoLullan thinks ho cannot reach Ruckor botoro the 1,0th. A Mexican can driyo a inulo , but it takes the duvil to drive u Mexican , Hence Bernard already worn out , will atnrvo for two days bo- fora Ida rations reached him. A simi lar cause of complaint can bo raised against the Mexican as a teamster with reference to Saraaniogo'a train of Indian supplies bound for San Carlos. Though he is himself ono of the best ireightcrs in the territory , and a Mex ican , his teamsters struck and refused to move out with any escort at all. They could not bo induced to go. Tho. emergency was a serious ono. The upplles were already overdue and the Indians might become aggravated. For three days Bamaniego oxpoatuaat- od and bargained before ho could effect any settlement at all. They have bt last started , having left horn. Mexicans and all , and well escorted , this morning. fllK INDIAN BCOUTrf. "What will bo done with the treach erous Jmliium scouts1' ? is a coimpon query. They should undoubtedly bo uliot. By inflicting upon thorn sum mary punishment a lesson in realty to the Government will bo lastingly taught to thu Indian tiibos of Arizona. No doubt , however , by the time that the Military Commission , which is to try them , shall huvo completed its in- veHtixations , the ISostoniuuLeaguoiuid Ptuco Commission will bo ready to procure their pardpn. Wo have al ready heard the tvhUporinga of com- passion. They are certainly u line- looking set of mon Perhaps it waa a mistuko to uxpuct assistance ) from them in the nmst "f thuir own medicine man , who toitholr childish supersti tions wu u puissant as thu Popoiiim- elf. , , Nevertheless they are "duly on- Jistedtoldiers./ , They ; have had the military obligation fully explained to them. They treacherously fired upon their own troops , nnd opened n bloody campAign that hai not only cost the Government hundreds of thousands of dollars nml many valuable- lives , but for two months has terrorized the whole communitcd. Atanyrato , their death Sa demanded , both ns n punish ment for an atrocious crime nnd ns a military security. Thenrmy contains , by statute , 1.000 Indian scouts. If those murderers are to escape with im punity wo shall soon hear of other out rages just ns flagrant , nid , perhaps , bn taught to mourn our ill-timed mer cy in tlio fnco of a disaster too terrible to contemplate. Lot , thcnj these treacherous scouts bo speedily tried aiulsuiiininrily dispatched , nnd lotthcir fate be carefully related to nil the other various companies of Indian scouts now in the service. TUB COWHOY AT 1IOMB. Very few believe that the extrava gant stories they hear or rend in the ircss concerning" the wild wliito men if the frontier towns nro true. The nngtmgo so often attributed to them i looked upon ns an effort in romance. The fact is , however , tlmt Iho half inlet lot told. The oxtmvngnnt stories of Vlark Twain are mild to what is Ink- ng place nt this very minute. It won only last night thnt while walking lomo from supper I paused n native , slightly inebriated , who was thus colil- onuizing to im imaginary nudionco , "iloro I ntn , boys ; straight from Snn Simon. I'm Tom Malone , Crook's old scout. Pro fit all through the ter ritory. There arc six of us , but I'm the worst out except old Curly. Lot's take a smile. " A little wl > ilo later , when the whisky had tnkon n deeper lold upon the old scout , I hoard him nvito to a duel , at fifteen paces , any one in a largo bar-room. A fight soomcd imminent for a moment , but as no ono else was cniito. so drunk , the .endoncy . of a few to "draw" was sup- irosscd ; and Tom Malone wandered lown the road and disappeared. When &st heard from ho was engaged in on maginary theological discussion in the middle of the prairie , and handled his subject with credit and address. A LAND OF LICEtfSB. There is not a night that pistols nro not diichargod in the streets of Wil- cox. A stray bullet flying at random s liable nt nny moment to work norious mishap , but thus far to favor the Into walkers. About four days ago a shot was fired ripht over the artillery camp. Ears Wore , pf course , pricked up n little , but as it was so usual a stray , no notice was taken of it. Jit ibout ton minutes 1 at tor , however , another riflo-bull came tumbling close above the camp. Investigation now liscovorcd two natives making toward Wilcox. It was their pleasant little way of letting the inhabitants know ; hey were coming. A friend related .o mo the other day a story that shows the slight tenure of life in such a [ ) lnco. It was at Doming , I think , jnly a little while ngo , that a bullying cowboy , who had boon having his own way pretty much to suit himself , had about succeeded in taking the town. A railroad employe and his companion , a new-comer , young nnd just from the states , were subjected to several nn- loying exhibitions of his lawlessness. At length the town got a little excited , nnd the young stranger , remarking ; hat some ono would yet bo killed proposed to disarm the native. The jowboy was galloping up and down the street "liriug' his revolver , and every now1 and then dismounting be fore a saloon , or else riding deliber ately into it , and taking on more ( fuel. At. length lie ran out of a saloon and coolly fired down the sidewalk , Then without looking around , laid lis pistol back over his shoulder and > ullod the trigger. As misfortune would have it , the young new-comer at that very moment came out of n saloon near by , and receiving the ball till in the forehead , fell dead The : nr/.y assassin was lynched soon after , jut to what purpose ? Nothing can ntono for such license. J. ANDERSON ANSWERED. John Steen's Reply to Henry Anderson's Communi cation. To the IMIlorof The Dec ; WAIIOO , Nob. , October 20. A few days ago there appeared in Tin : Biii : n letter from Mr. Henry Anderson , ostensibly 'in vindication of himself of grave charges Jyou pub- ishod concerning him. If Mr. An derson had been content to produce acts to disprove those charges or made any effort to clear his character , in stead of indulging in a long tirade against mo , I should have re mained silent. But , inasmuch as ho seeks to create the impression that I am the source of all his trouble and tries to put the blame of his personal indiscretion ana family jars upon mo under the pretext that I am seeking revenge because ho refused to resign his county trossurership in my favor , I may bo pardoned for1 intruding upon you witha , few linos. It is as absurd as it is childish for Mr. Andersen to mak.o such a "charge because ho know then , a 'ho ' knows now , tlmt the of fice Is not translornblo and was never at lui disposal , lie charges mo with troaohery and bad faith in connection with my relation to him and his first wito , and. seeks to bolster his own character by publishing n letter J wrote to him in 1877 ( in which I ex pressed the opinion that the separa tion was perhaps mutually for the boat , and wherein I assured him of niy sympathy. At thu time that letter was written I had no knowledge of Mr. Anderson's conduct uway from homo , and ho en joyed my full confidence. Tlmt our rotations have since changed is not my fault , bjit his own. His allegations about my taking advantage of my sistgHtHnw in thu disposal of her property are baseless and unworthy of uitice , Mr. Anderson admits his indictment for adultery , and does not gainsay your statement concerning the ante' , ccdunts of his second wife ; but ho as- crtH thnt I procured the indictment through , "hocus pocus " The fact is that ho was indicted ' by a grant ) jury upon competent' testimony and ho seeks to impeach the honesty of those jurors ami the district attor ney by representing that they have acted upon more hearsay * The in dictment may bo quashed by ft resort to technical picas but his offence against public morals nnd the terrible mnlndy from which my poor sister-in- law is slowly dying through his crim inal conduct can never bo condoned.
