The money mar ket worked easy throughout the week , anil ruling rates for call loans wcro3@lpcr cent , with exceptional transactions : t G per cent. Foreign exchange * were advanced one cent early In the week for both classes of sterling , but towards the close there was less demand nnd rates were reduced one- half cent and the market closed quiet. Government * wore strong and higher with greatest advance in the extended fu. llailaaynnd miscellaneous speculation was strong nt opening , but weakness teen t-ot in and n dcnllno of'i \ per cent took place , led by VniidcrhilLs anil Bomoof the South western shares. During tha latter part of the week the cmir.se of the market was irregular , but in the main , toward higher figures , quite n sharp iccovcry taking place in sumo instances. In the express stocks Adams advanced 1C per cent and reacted 10 per cent. MONEY. Money was easy throughout with rates for call loans ranging from 4 to 0 per cent ; 2J per cent wax the closing rate. Exchange was steady at 4 50J@I SIJ. Governments closed strong. To-day the banks reported a good de- ma'nd for money at C@7 per cent. Eastern - ern exchange between city banka was firmer nt 23 per cent discount per § 1,000. The clearings of the associated banks were SG-100,000. A fair amount of money was forwarded to points in thd grain nnd Block districts. Omaha Wholesale Market. OFFICE OF Tun OMAHA HKE , ) SATnlay Evening , October 23. j Weekly Review. On Monday in almost all Hues there was dullness owing to the rainy weather. On the whole the merchandise trade of Omaha lias been less for the week. Country roads arc bad , impeding travel and the moving of products even if farmers could get any ready for market. Still , business hai been remarkably good , all the drawbacks con sidered. The money market ia decidedly close , there being n very active demand for loanable funds in excess of offerings. Bankers nre now confining themselves mostly to customers. All classes nre bor rowers , particularly city merchants , who a > enow receiving only sluw remittances from their country customers. Discount rates aru stiff. A little currency is now coming in from the country. Altogether the money market here , is very iiotive. Beposita and checking nrofcry heavy for the season. Eastern exchange is in liberal offering. During the week the grain markets have been unsettled with downward tendency in prices. Wheat declined Ic. Barley closed 2Jc higher than opening quotations. Hye declined 3Jc , Corn closed to-night Jo higher than opening prices. Oats nbout Ic higher nt the close to-niglit. Ground feed firm and unchanged. Flax need not ma terially changed. Baled hay hiirher. Broom corn weaker and tendency downward. The weather in terfered with business in the street markets. Potatoes arc showing Icea receipts. Eggs higher on decreased offerings , Fruits in light supply. ' Chickens steady , Prairie chickens ecarce nnd firm. Ducks plenty. Provisions ( visions firm , Cattle weak. Hoga easier. Sheep lower. Veals scarce nnd firm. Dry Goods The market is active , largo mail orders are being.filled and our whole- Hale houses nro pushed to their utmost. Prices lirm with an upward tendency in Home goods , American , Simpsons nnd Hamilton ; ) prints advanced Jo ; cambrics advancing , , Lumber The condition nnd prospects ot the lumber business in the west remain in satisfactory state. The recent had weather has thrown its effects in n slight falling off of shipments , but this is owing largely to the almost impassable condition of the roads nnd streets.
