STOCKS.
The stock market to-day was influenced
greatly by the workings of the money mar
ket ; at tiic opening ot business piices
showed n slight advance , but before the
first board tlio weakness and stringency
of money which wns loaning nt 1-32 and
interest , caused considerable pressure to
sell under which prices declined rapidly.
After midday , however , money became
easiei , and under purchasers to cover short
interest there was a sharp rally , and clos
ing prices in several instances were the
highest of the day. The general list , however -
ever , closed lower than on Saturday.

Dry Goods To-day was observed aw a
btrict holiday by all the influential class
of buyers , and the. weather having boon
unfavorable for the distribution of heavy
winter fabrics , new business was restricted
in volume with agents and jobbers alike.
The main features of the market are un
changed ; and while stocks continue in ex
cellent condition , prices are ( irmly main
tained on all most desirable goods. Cot
ton goods have moved steadily from hands
in execution of former orders , but purchases
were comparatively light anil mostly of
the hand to mouth character. Leading
makes brown and bleached goods , wide
sheetings , and cotton flannels uru heavy ,
and mild in advance of the productionand
such is the case with many kimh of col
