rates were reduced to I 82 4 81. Govern
ment Ixnutt were weak and decline frao

pro-fed almost throughout tlio week , and

prices. In the early dealing the market
wat affected by tlio relapse of 1'iesidcnt
Onrficld and liy the continnancy of trunk
line difficulties , but later on the great
stringency in money added weakness and
an Increased pressure to sell. The highest
( ( nutations were made at opening , and the
lowest near clo e , the decline having
ranged from 2@ < i per cent in the L-eneral
Hat. A heavier decline was marked In
Denver & Illo ( Srande , which fell oft" 10@12
per cent. Toward e ese the market was
tinner in tone and showed some recovery
from the lowest point. In the final sales
depression again prevailed , and the lowest
quotations of the week were tnndo In many
instances.

Tlio stock market to-day WAS weak and
irregular throughout. There were covcral
rallies , but at close the lowest ( ( notations
were generally current. Dealings were not
largo and nothing of special import trans
pired. A decline in some instances , how
ever , was very marked , especially in the
cases of Illinois Central and C. C. C. & I. ,
the former showing a decline of 5J per
cent and the latter 4 } per cent. In the
rest of the list the decline ranged from
i@3 per cent , the lowest prices of
the day being generally current at close.
Trunk lines shares were steady.

WEEKLY HKVIKW.
Business has been good in all lines dining - -
ing the week , especially for the season of
the year. In fact the volume of sales ,
which has been tn excess of any previous
summer , has been well unstained during
the week now ended. All classes of mer
chandise have shown liberal and active
tales , the leading houses in these lines be
ing very busy. There has been very little
diminution of tiaflio since the summer
opened. Sales of dry goods are a little
less in quantity than they were a week
ago , as country merchants nre generally
waiting crop outcome before replenishing
stocks. Dry goods in fair sale ; hardware
active ; building materials selling liberally ;
lumber in very active demand ; boots and
shoes' season fairly opened ; dings and
paint ? selling handsomely ; liu'eed oil has
advanced during the week 2c for raw mul
2@3e for boiled ; castor XXX advanced lOc ,
and No. 3 advanced lOc ; turpentine 7c
higher.
Banking has been more active in cash
transactions than in tlio matter of loans ,
The borrowing demand for money haw
been light , yet a good deal of money is
being handled , as the merchants and banks
are receiving heavy remittances. Currency -
rency U generally flowing into this market :
freely , and country bank balance i are
piling up. But very little return currency
in going into the country just now. Bank
collections are promptly made , and mer
chants are receiving cash freely from their
customers , As yet their h no material demand
mand for money by country banks. Coun
ter business at the city banks Is very ac
tive in deposits and checking. Many 1Cof
our merchants are paying cash for the
goods they nro now purchasing , and con-
uequently there Is a good Inquiry for east
ern exchange , but the general supply in
the market la well
sustained. The money
market is easy in tone , with the banks
seckinggood paper.
The grain markets
have been very
strong during the week. Wheat has been
in good demand and closed OJo higher than
last Saturday. Corn U booming and
closed 80 higher. Data
unsettled , advanc
ing 3 ( 5o during the week , but closed 1@
2e lower than last week , Barley has been
dull all the week , and prices nominally
lower , until to-day , when prices advanced
12c , Jlyo advanced lie. CJ round feed
closes firmly held. Com meal steady ,
Bran quiet and firm. Baled hay very dull
all the week.
Choice butter Is ruling very stiff ; lower
grades fcteady and quiet. Kggu advanced
Ic during the wqek. . Dressed meats not
quotable , owing to the hot weather , Hides
in fair receipts and steady demand. Wool
in light supply and prices e'aiy. Poultry
60 lower. Potatoes have been rather weak
and lower , but closed firm , , Qnioiw scarce.
Tomatoea In good supply and declined
91.50 per bushel.
The market for hogs has been strong ,
And considerably advanced. Light pack

higher. Cattle were also firmer , but prices
remain the fame as laU week. Sheep ,
very little doing , the only demand being
fur home consumption.
