To Exhibitors for tlio Stnto Fair :
As tlio impression is quito general
in the stntotlmt tlio cousl ruction given
to thi > BO'cnllcil "milro\d law , " hj
the oliicors of tlio railrtmd companioB ,
will reqniro c.\liibitii-s to pay freight
In and from the fnir-contiary to the
usual custom of only paying ono wny
1 am authorized to sny that exhibit
ors will only bo oblim-d to pay fnjighl
( o the fair. Tliu Nebraska stafo
board of ngricnlturo will pay rotnrn
'freight ' , on certilicato of the secretary
that the stuck and articles \veio on
exhibition ,
In this connection it is exceedingly
gratifying testate that tlio U. I' , and
H. it M. railroad companies , in the
exercise of that liberal policy which
had hitherto done so much to make
thu Nebraska state fair a success ,
hnvo each tendered to the state board
a donation in money , which will moro
than roiinburm ) thu board for the
money it will pay out in returning
the freight. The construction given
to the railroad law , n construction
sustained l > y very eminent law
yers , adopted by the companies after
thu moat mature consideration ,
placed the board of malingers in the
moat embarrassing situation. Tiie
managing ollicers of the U. P. and It.
it M. companies were fully aware
of this embarrassment , and acemcd
Mixioua to relieve it , Unless re *
liovcd , failure seemed inevitable.
Exhibitors could not be expected to
Oiip their slock fanners would not
send the fi'uits of the Hoil , if they hud
to pay freight both ways. Our line
Battle , hoi-Heo , uhcon and ho s , that
liavo always been such an attractive
feature at the utato fair , would ne
cessarily remain at home , and the
zornini ; fair be little clue than \ \ fail
ure. Such was the condition , and
such the prospect when the U. 1 * .
uul the 11. anil M. c .11110 to the res-
sue by awarding a donation which relieves -
lioves the board from all further anx
ietyIt
It w believed that the 0. & N.V. .
will also manifent a similar Rpirit.
Freight on all stock , merchandise ,
produce and articles for Exhibition at
the state fair over the U. V. and its
branchcsand the U. & M. and its leased
lines , will be paid to tlio fair by the
exhibitor , and return chargca uill be
> aid by the state board. With these
justomary freight rates to exhilntoiB ,
It , is believed that nothing now stands
in the way of having the most attrac
tive and successful fair ever held in
iho western country.J .
