Wednesday Evening , July 27,18S1. J
There were no new features of nny con-
Hcquence in to-day's street produce mar
kets. A business aggregating nbout the
usual amount was done , and an ordinary
demand existed. Few important alteration -
tion occurred in values , and generally
these markets , though not tame to dullness ,
were quiet. Blackberries arc now arriving
freely , and some raspberries are seen in the
market. The supplies of fresh vegetables
offering are about equal to local inquiries ,
and piicesare tolerably steady.
The arrivals of butter continue small.
Good table grades in demand. Eggs , dull ;
yrecn apples , higher and unsettled ; onions ,
in fair supply and unchanged ; new pota
toes and cabbage very scarce and wanted ;

The Iron and Stool Market.
Special to tliu ( llnlio-Dcinocrnt.
riiii.Aiiiii'iiA : , July 2Ii , 1881.
Lant wuck'n improvement in the
iron market 1ms been miiijileinented
by n week of Htetidy dcveiomnont of
InwinoBH in nil ctmnnels. The nmrkot
is roinoikiibly buoyant and prices of
all kinds ( if iron liavo un upward ten
dency. In merchant bar nt utore there
wus an ndvnnco from 12,4 to 2.C , and
nt mills from L'.Si to 2,4. ] ! uniiiuss is
rimliint , ' in under thu apprehenaion of
n possible further advance , but the
general uenliment of the trade in
averse to any advance not forced upon
thu market by actual causes. Itassemoi
is firm at 821 , and American furnaces
are prufitini ; by recent press comments
on the policy of leading consumers.
Imports are practically nothing , A
strong feolinj. is growing , but nny
material advance will open ports to
foreign iron , lience furniicemen can
not take advantage of the favorable
surroundings. Quotations are $24 to
$25 for best foundry , and 82.50 for
mill irons. Common iron , budge , ship ,
Hheot , plate and tank are all in unus
ually active demand and tinner prices
prevail. Ktucl rail inquiries for 1882
delivery resulted last week in the
placing of orders for 40,000 tons rails
at $55 to 857. Iron rails continue
firm ; old rails are quiet ut $20.25 , with
buyers indifferent.
