Market thii morning was strong on In-
crcaied volume of business prices advanced
J to 2 per cent , led by the Hannibal and
St. Joe and tnink lines , and Western Un
ion. Market continued strong unsil the
second Int.ird , when the highest figures
of the day were generally current. Toward -
ward the clo e there was some reaction ,
which was subsequently recovered , but in
final dealings prices again declined frac
tionally. Closing quotations however
were J1 | higher than yesterday's clo -
ing ; most active stocks were Western Un
ion Telegraph , Union Pacific , North
western , Lake Shore , Delaware , Lacka-
wanna and Western , Wabanh , Michigan
Central and Central Pacific. Nashville
and Chattanooga was exceptionally strong
to-Jay and closed at 4 per ccnthighor.

Money in good demand and Bupjilv' at
4(5:5 per cent on call and G@7 on time.
The clearings of the associated banks were
$7,300,000. Eastern exchange between
banks was little better than nominal , , at
1 discount on the $1,000. Orders for
currency were pretty large.

to-day in the grain market , the only
change being a fraction in No. 3 and re
jected wheat. Barley very full. Oats ,
corn and rye quiet.
In the provision market we note an ad
vance of Ic for eggs. Butter/ very
scarce , 1415c being paid for choice.
Strawberries continue to arrive in small
quantities and advanced 50a per case to
day. Raspberries scarce , at yesterday's
quotations.
Other markets mostly firm and un
changed. Very" little live stock was han
dled.
