A very fine company of theatrical people appeared in the Academy cf Music Saturday evening in tlio " Strategists , " n production that has elsewhere been received with much favor. The company is under llav- crly's general management and in most circumstances would have scored a hit in Omaha. There wan not a single other attraction in the city Saturday night and the painfully small audience demonstrated clearly that the people had not heard of the performance. Theatri cal managers will learn , an others hnvo learned , that there is but ono way in which to roach tlio people of Omaha und that is by advertising in Tun IJKB. It is unnecessary to nay this to anyone ono living m Omaha , for hero it is a Holf-cvidont proposition. Theatrical managers must necessarily bo shrewd business men and it will nottnko them eng to discover that an advertisement docs not pay simplybccauso itls cheap , when it is inserted in papers that are merely supplied to a corporal's guard in the city. TUB HUB docs not take advorlUomonts simply "to fill up. " If the object of she advertiser istotoach the people he can do so through this paper. TUB UEK knowing this has fixed a reasonable price for adve'rtis- ng space- , and this Ilicatrical mana gers and others pay. The very small audience of Saturday night empha sized T'IK HUB'S right to the title of Iho people's paper. ° Almost Drowned. Up at the U. P. depot there is a man and wife and five children who ire BO poor that they are actually suffering for the necessities of lifo. They were getting along nicely when , last winter , the man had a safe , which ho was helping to move fall upon his 'oot , rendering him n cripple over since ; then the woman was taken sick md poverty and wretchedness followed. At last they determined to return to ; heir friends in Missouri , and were ; ivcn passes over the U. P. road from Laramie to Omaha. They reached icro last Saturday without a cent , all they have being on their backs , and hat in a dirty and ragged condition. Since that time they have lived in the shod at the depot , subsisting only up on the charity of passengers and employes about the depot , and sleep- ng upon the bare floor next to the walls of the building. This seems to bo a case which de mands the attention of the county commissioners , as well as the further charity of the railroads. COLD POISON. Attempt at- Suicide Ugly Drunk Looking for a Hotel.
