MONEY IN CHICAGO.
CHICAGO , June 16.
Money remains steady at 4@5 per cent
on call and C@7 per cent on time. De
mand was on a fairly active scale. East
ern exchange between city banks was
weaker at 75 cents discount per 81,000.
The clearings of the associated banks were
§ 0,400,000.
Omaha Wholesale Market.
Omen ov THE OMAHA BEE , 1
Friday K\ cuing , Juno 17,1881. )
Grain markets to-day were mostly firm ;
No. 3 wheat aihancing 2 cents ; corn is
lc higher than yesterday' * quotations ,
while rye is 2c and oats Ic lower.
In the provision market we note a de
cline of 5c per bushel on potatoes , and Jc
for butter. Gaidcn stuff was scarce and
what was brought in sold for good prices.
The first cabbage of the season was mar
keted here to-day , bringing So CO per crate ;
new potatoes were also on the market , but
the dealers complain that they were of a
poor quality and cry. few sales. Other
articles in the
provision quotations 1111
changed.
Li\e stock quotations remain the same ,
very little being done.
In the drug market we note another de
cline of lOc for quinine. The wholesale
druggists report business booming , ( n l
prospects better than for home iime past.

TIio Ironnnd Stool Market-
Special to the Globe-Democrat.
PIIILAIIKLVIIIA , Juno 14. The pres-
auro for stool and iron rails is unabnt-
0(1hi . A heavy week's business has
boon traiisiictod , cliiolly in iron mils
at 840 to $17. The mills have capac
ity ; engaged up to September 1. Now
inquiries continue to como in. Stool
rails i\ro Biibjoct to nctivo inquiry for
western and Huuthwostorn roadB , and
small ] orders have been placed this
week on more reasonable terms , viz. ,
$00 , in consonunnco of foreign
competition. Heavy orders con
tinue to go abroad , some for
eastern and some for north
western roads. Winter and spring
deliveries ! are being slowly contracted
for at 850 to $58. The old mil market
fokc
ket has taken another downward turn
iu consequence of the determined ef
fort of holders of rails in bond to un
load before paying duties. Thirty
thousand tons were oftbred to-day in
one lot. Consumers' wants arc sup-
jiliod ' and Boilers are oblifod to con
cede liberally. Forgo pig iron is dull
at $1 ! ) . A few furnaces have gene
out of blast , some to repair , others
because of low prices ; others are
threatening to follow. The outlook ia
not encouraging. Imports continue
heavy. Foreign production ia in
creasing und jiriccs are weakening.
liosBomer pig is active. Unr iron and
construction ir n of all kinds continue
active demand and are improving
