I The wholesale market to-day indicated
n healthy actii ity with few changes from
last quotations. Transactions in breadstuffs -
\ stuffs were of a restrained character and
prices of grain were generally weak and a
Miadc lower. Wheat declined 1 jc for Xo.
2 , and 3c per bushel for N. . . 3. following a
decline on the Chicago Wrd. Ujc and
corn ruled at lo lower than 1-ut quotation * .

.riNANCIAI , .
An important r.tcp which has long been
in contemplation will soon be Inaugurated
byourb.mks. For t-oieral year * Omaha
hai been laboring under a serious disad
vantage when compared with other great
trade and fiiuncial centres in possessing no
regular published account of the clearings
made by her banks. These important hta-
tittles which indicate mimiustakably the
cm rent of trade and the amount of busi
ness transacted through the banks will
Mon , as we arc' informed , bo furnished to
the press. A number of energetic { work
ers in OmahaV interests have been urging
the matter upon our banks and it is under
stood that they have consented to comply.
This move will necCHsitatu the entrance by
our banks into the National Cleat ing asso
ciation , and the particular attention of a
clerk In each bank to tho. tatistics of daily
balances against the others. Few persons
outside of Omaha have any adequate idea
of our largo banking transactions. The
railroad fumlo and the government moneys
in addition to the
private business of our
merchants andj"manufacturew all pass
through local banking houses. Whrti
Omaha's dealing * are published they will
compare favorably with these of any of
our far -western tr.ide centres.
Another move which will prove of the
highest inipoitance to our merchants is the
effort now- being made to .securu n daily
call of the Chicago markets in the Board
of Trade rooniH. The completion of the
new elevators and the establishment of an
Omaha giade of wheat joined to the is u-
, nnce of warehouse certi Rentes will at once
bring this city to the front as a grain mar
kct. Already unite a largo business is be
ing done in Chicago grain options by our
citizen" , and the establishment of a local
market will promote a henlthy speculation ,
increase at once its prestige of our city and
advertise more effectually her icsources.
MOKKl IN CHICAGO.
Local money market remains in the name
condition as noticed for heveral days past.
With a good supply of loanablofuiicls , and
the offerings of Board of Trade and mer
cantile jiaper below the wishes of our lead
ing buMiieus houses , the market was very
uncomfui table at J5 ( ! per cent. I'astern
exchange between city banks was Hold at
par to 2."c premium $1,000. The clearings
of the Associated bank were SI-100,000. )

Omalia'o Homo-Mndo.
A piece of Omahu'B workmanship
in the way of a carriage may bo seen
at Messrs. Meadimbor it Dailoy's , on
the corner of Capitol Avontio nnd Six
teenth stroot. It io a landau made
for Mr. John I. Uedick , and after
looking at it few will believe it neces
sary to send to Now York and the
east for carriages that may bo turned
; iut fully as well at homo. Every-
; lmig about the vehicle was made
icre. H is entirely black without ,
except gold mounted bands on the
tubs , and gold-plaitod metal mould
ing used as binding where the leather
: op is taukod on. The lamps are beau
tiful specimens of their kind framed
in gold-plaited molal. The landau is
lined with a heavy dark blue ropp ,
trimmed with a lighter shade of bluo.
The whole is a great credit to our
home manufacturer , and presages the
ay when Omaha will bo the peer of
any city in the mechanical arts.
