ADDITIONAUOCAL NEWS Klitzzlo nml Tag. 1 \ Now that the hot weather is coming on seine stops sliouhl bo taken by tliu authorities to protect citizens from the ravages ) of rabid dogs. It has been the custom to order all dogs either chained np or muzzled during the summer months , Several people have already been bitten by ferocious ca nines , and a dog bite , however slight : v wound may bo caused by It , is very dangerous at this season of the year. There is a city ordinance which orders nil dogs to be "tagged , " and those ndt having the prescribed tag attached to the collar to bo shot. Tlio ordinance states that the owner of ovcry dog shall pay a license or Uix for keeping the same of ono dollar per year , and the enforcement of this ordinance by the authorities would bo a measure of protection for the public , do away with a large number of ownerless and vicious curs , and besides increase the revenue of tlio city. Disastrous Runaway. A very exiting runaway occurred in the northern part of the city yester day. The team driven by a plasterer became frightened and started at u terrible rate of speed down Oraco street , in Smith's addition , The driver , a man named Noilson , was thrown violently to the ground , alighting on nil fours , but the momen tum being very great ho was forced forward , striking tlio ground with his face , and tearing his under lip almost off , besides skinning his nose and otherwise disfiguring him. lie was carried U > u now building in the vicin ity , nnd a surgeon sent for to sow up his wounds. The only wonder is that the man did not break liis neck , so severe was the plunge. The Monitor of Fashion , published by the largest millinery house in the world , under date of May 12th says : "Our next supplement will illustrate ten now summer shapes , ono of which the Mumm will bo trimmed. The Mumm is a jaunty , stylish misses' ' hat , very new. " For sale at Hick- man's headtiuarters for millinery. See the great bargains in bankrupt stock of Straw Hats at Frederick's. The city presents quite a lively ap pearance , and considerable prepara tions are being made for the tourna ment , which will commence on Mon day next. The grounds , grand stand and seats are completed , and every thing is in good shape for a successful meeting of the liremen. A large arch has .been constructed at the junction of Broadway and Main tttreet , and presents an imposing ap pearance. The citizens of Council Bluffs , to gether with the various railroads cen tering there , have had a survey made for a levee upon the river bottoms to guard against the encroachment of the water in the future. The levee will bo built of dirt , with a uniform width of thirty feet and a height of eight feet , and will extend along the river bottoms from the round house of the C , it N.V. . railway to the approaches > f the U. P. bridge. The people are in earnest in the matter , and say that if the railroads fail they will build it alone , and will commence it imme diately.
