A" Eccentric Statcn Island Couple , Xew York Tribune. Jeremiah Harrington , Who died ? ast Friday at his home on the old Amboy road , nea-T Eltingville , S. L , was buried yesterday. On Friday pre vious to his death his wife died. They were a very eccentric couple. The wife was about eighth years old and her husband is said to be nearly one hundred. They lived in a miserable old hut , and their death was duo to f heir having deprived themselves of the necessaries of life. Harrington , when his wife died , wanted her buried in the yard back of the house , as he said that lie could not afford to pay the expenses of the funeral. At this the neighbors took charge of the case. On entering the house the sight which met their gaze was sickening. The place was in the most filthy condition , and the corpse , which lay on the bed , was in a horrible state. A dead cat was found under the bed , and chickens sat perched upon the bed posts. Har rington said that he had not even money enough to buy candles for the wake. As the body was being prepar ed fet burial $50 in bills was found sewed to a garment under the ami. A thorough search of the house was made , and a bank hook was found showing a deposit of S700 in a New York bank to the credit of Jeremiah Harrington. 3Iany small coins wrapped in bits of paper were discovered in different parts of the house. A deed and five different wills of Harrington's drawn up within the last twelve years , were also found. The deed showed that the house and six acres of ground were owned by Harringto and free from debt. Har rington's body was buried by his son beside the remains of his wife in St. Joseph's cemetery at llossville. The couple for a long time had lived on salt and potatoes. TOAST.
