A man who was continually boast
ing of the kindness of Providence to *
him once stepped on a banana pael
and came to earth in spite of his ef
forts to recover himself. A friend
twitting him on the circumstances
derisively asked : ' "Where did the
Providence come in OB that occasion ? "
Plainly enough , " was the answer.
"It was a plank walk ; if It had been a
stone one ah , well , thanks be to
Providence , It wasn't.
It is related that one hundred and
fifty Tennessee clergymen recently
prayed for rain , and It was followed
by a fortnight of the dryest season
ever known In that state. The cir
cumstance caused considerable com
ment , until a Chattanooga man
dropped into a country grocery ( tore
with the explanation that he reckoned
Providence got tired of being fooled
by people who prayed for water when
what they wanted all the time was
whisky. -
