ItCCHELlE.
This charming and beautiful young
actress , who made so favorable an im-
prestslon in this city on her first
appearance here lut season , is again
on the road , firmly established
with s new company , the old
stock o Wallack's and Daly'e ,
and very finely supported.
She will appear in Omaha at an early
day , and the groit favor she met
with before will result in greeting
her with a crowded house. Sha ap
peared at Kansas City thr e nights
recently and mot a perfest ovation.
The opera housa wai filled with the
culture of the ci'y , all eager aud anx
ious to see and hear the western star ,
whom all are becoming glad to
honor and proud to have
oeen. The Mail speaks of her
as follows : "There was a triumph
for Rosh-lle lait night. The charac
ter of Esradne never seemed so pnro
and goo. ] . Objectionable as some
have deemed the play , yet its leaning
towardsvirtnocan never be questioned.
Few women care to assume the char
acter of Eradno , for to fail in propsr-
ly bringing out the heroic virtue of
the noblis yet unfortunate
girl , h to le&ve the character stripped
cf its .beauty to make -vice seem
brighter for the ehsdow cist v p vir
tue. RoBhslle makts no mistake in
reserving her full powers for the slat-
ue scene. Nothing can bs finer than
her cppaal to the hort of the
kins ; through the marble str.tues
of her dead ancastora. Roshelle's tri
umph waa in the shading the gave to
the lines if the play , and th ? earnest
appeal which ehono out of her beauti
ful face that gars to ih& wordc-a sub'
tie influence that was perfectly irro-
piBtible. The conviction must have
been impressed upon all present that
Roshelle Is the future great trage
dienne of the American or English
stage. Nature has conspired to make
a perfect artist. "
TTDAIPIT DUJiriT.
The Academy was crowded Satur-
night , and the best of satisfaction was
expressed with the performance. The
horizontal bar performances were very
fine indeed , and the entire show wai
full cf laughable and picas
ing features. Gilinore and Miaco
have cart&inly combined more merit
In their company than any other
Humpty Damply troupe on the road.
The trained dogs , baby elephant ,
alligator and donkey make big hits ,
The alieet parade was
very attractive , equal to Barnam's
almcst , and the snow storm did not
lessen the interest of the public along
the rente.

Bishop O'Conner Receives a
Letter from County
Gal way.
A Ball on St Patrick's Day
Forbidden.
At the conclusion of the services
Sunday in St. Philomena's church ,
Bishop O'Connor read a letter which
WBB addressed to him from a Sister
of Charity , in County Galway , Ire
land. The letter waa an appeal for
aid : "Oar circumstances are sad , in
deed , while the country is pasalug
through a crisis , of which we , at
least , cannot know what will bo the
end , but certain it is
that the sufferings of the
poor while it lasts arc , and will be
pitiable to witness. * * * Those
who at other times would give a little
help , now refuse to do BO. * * *
The potato crop of ou really poor
charge is fast running out , and how
the creatures are to subaiar , or sow
their little land God alone can tell "
The bishop stated that he did not
think the appeal called for a general
collection , but requested any one who
ftlt disposed to respord to leave their
contribution with Father English ,
and that ho would bo Tory happy to
forward it to the sitter for relieving
distress in that place.
The bishop took occasion to remind
his congregation that he had prohibit
ed a public toll that was to have been
given on St. Patrick's day at Coluin-
bua , under the auspices of the A. 0.
H. He thought it was out of place
and scandalous , fa during the season
of Lent all secular amusements of this
kind ara prohibited and forbidden by
the Catholic church and avoided by
all good Catholics. Ho had not pro
hibited the procession that waa an
nounced for the came day. He con
sidered tuch demonstrations , as a gen
era ! thing out of place in this country ,
especially in connection with general
celebration.
