eyes on the morning after my arrival

the usual noises of the gambling *

bridles , were being clubbed along.the
street to the market by lazy Mexicans ,
who make the burro perform the du-

Once at the market place , these pa-

It is a charming little park and every

is greatly enjoyed , by the crowds of
promenaders. Hero it was that I had
my first glimpse of- the best people of.
the town , the educated and cultured
Oastillians who have for years con
trolled the immense trade of Santa
Fe. I saw them hero with
their dark eyed handsome jsenoritaa
and their charming daughters , who
exhibit the native coyness and mod- ,

It was a gay sight , all laughing and

was wanting to make It thoroughly

intensify the scone. I suggested this
to my companion , an American who

and he said to wait till later , in the
evening'and he would introduce me
into the mizy bewilderment of a real
