Last night at the academy of music ,
the dreas circle wss adorucd by a dy

her , and in a voice as tender as a sir

"Don't yer think it's awful warm

She let fall on him a languid , pity

"Ah ! yes , there exists a certain de

to the comfcrt of one's physical being ;
bnt my dear Mr. Weedles. you are no
doubt perfectly aware of tha fact that
chemistry teaches us that the exhala

to the corpuscles in the blood , produc

A Friendly Discussion.

Several nights ago Rev. Mr. Mul-

[ lev. Mr. Sissafras Swine ; , Methodist
circuit rider , stopped at a hotel mLit-

'shown up , " a plcMant conversation
m the welfare of the church was in-
reduced by Mr. Mnlbnry. :
"YeV fc'Ud Brother Sassafras Swingr ,

"It advances the ause , " replied
ktr. Mnlbnry. "It moves the gospel :

"Mr. Mnlbury , why is it that yon

if preacher , are you ? "
"I say minister because it is cor-

lorrectly , and I intend to do so. "

aaoy times more , * bat I'm glad that I

' That's intended as a 4inp at me , "
aid Mr. Mulbnry , emphatically
'Anybody could discover the fact in a
aoment , Mr. Swing , that you never '
ubbed your head against a college
rail. "
' I can preach all an.Bnd yon , fill :

"You couldn't preach a genuine ser-

"Well , I'll just bet ynn fifteen hun-

heifer , that I can preach the socks
right offen you. Ano don't you for-
git it. I'vo rid a circuit too long to
be bullraged by a scbjcl-hcuse top-

Mr Mulbury's ftce flushed. Ho
looked at his companion for a moment ,
arose and E.iid :
"I dislike to nso such violent lan
guage , bat alli'W ' me to say that you
. are an ignorant old liar. "
Bro her S < B3afr/u / sprng to his

shoved up his sleevoi and exclaimed :
"I didn't want any tracfc witn yon ,
but you've raised my bile. Out your

The two men dived at each other.
Mr. Mulbnry jabbed hia thumb in
Swing's eye and exclaimed : "He

Mr. Swing reached around , caught
Mnlbery'a ear between his teeth , and
muttered : "He that hath ears to hear
let him hear. "
Theporter heard the racket , rnabed
infb the room and attempted to sepa
rate the men , but String bit him on
the leg. Finally the clerk and two
drummers rushed in and dr gged the
men into the hall.
"The uneducated brute ! " panted

ITAS in a better position than at the ;
tame date of 1879 by 60-
DOO.OOO bushels. To this
may be added 31,000,000
bashels , which the department of ag.
riculture very safely estimates as this
year's excess in the United States crop
over that of 1879. The net result ,
therefore , is that , as c mpared with
the European requirements for con-
autrption and BIOC ! . , ' the available
supply will be about 90,000,000 bnah-
ol larger than in the last crop year.
This conclusion does not overlook the
fait that there is art important defic
iency jn the Europam rye crop ,
which needs to be compensated ty
other substitutes. Our Indian corn
crop is quite adequate to satisfy the
demand arising on that account. Ac
cording to the department of agricnl
turo , the corn yield is about the same
as that of 1879 and the condition gen
erally good. The crop of 1879
was 150,000,000 bushels in excess of
the average of the three preceding
years and a very unusually heavy
stock was carried over at tht end of
the year ; which accounts for the fact
that between September 1st and Nov
ember 8tb the shipment from the At
lantic seaboard reached the extra *
ordinary total of 21,000,000 bu hele.
For these reasons the deficiency in
the European rye crop is not to be ex
pected to have any very important
influence on the demand for wheat. * > I i
