In icapoct to these two hief importing countries , tha fact is ( ept out of ti bt that their jnint wants 'roui external sources are likely to fall ju.te . 75,000,000 bushels below those t" last year. So , with respect to Italy , Fhe Tribune admits that its average s estimated at 115 per cant. , bat does lot inform UB that the Vienna fair ea- inutK for that country last year was inly 82 per cent ; nor does it inform it that Ronmania , while estimated at L25 for 1880 , was rated al only 75J in L878. KUSM , Thn Tribune citct as being estimated at 90 perhaps an ex * tretne figure bnt the fact it not man * tioned that tbe fair's estimates for lart pear ware atill lower , ranging from " > 6 per cent In Middle Russia , and 57 in Great np to 90 in Northern. "A fair comparison of tbe best European estimates would , we think , Lead to the conclusion that the lefbienoies in the European crops , this y nr are , In the ncgregate , 75- 300,000 bushels below thosi ) of 187 * . . rhe European stocksat'the , beginning jf the current crop year were yery ieficieiit , bat the quantity in store in > this country and afloat for Europe on ha 31st of AtJgnit w * so largely in of the nominal quantity about 15,000,000 bnihels as to more than lalf offset that deficiency. Allowing 'or the deficiency in stocks less the 310. . is over normal American risible lupply and afloat we may conclude hat , on the 1st of September Europe ITAS in a better position than at the ; tame date of 1879 by 60- DOO.OOO bushels. To this may be added 31,000,000 bashels , which the department of ag. riculture very safely estimates as this year's excess in the United States crop over that of 1879. The net result , therefore , is that , as c mpared with the European requirements for con- autrption and BIOC ! . , ' the available supply will be about 90,000,000 bnah- ol larger than in the last crop year. This conclusion does not overlook the fait that there is art important defic iency jn the Europam rye crop , which needs to be compensated ty other substitutes. Our Indian corn crop is quite adequate to satisfy the demand arising on that account. Ac cording to the department of agricnl turo , the corn yield is about the same as that of 1879 and the condition gen erally good. The crop of 1879 was 150,000,000 bushels in excess of the average of the three preceding years and a very unusually heavy stock was carried over at tht end of the year ; which accounts for the fact that between September 1st and Nov ember 8tb the shipment from the At lantic seaboard reached the extra * ordinary total of 21,000,000 bu hele. For these reasons the deficiency in the European rye crop is not to be ex pected to have any very important influence on the demand for wheat. * > I i "in the face of the > e facts , we sub mit that it is no real satvieo to th westarn farmers to mislead them int expectation ! such as are suggested b ; our Chicago contemporary.
