Thursday was the quietest Thsnks'
giving day over seen in Omaha. Tht

were closed , and it was more like

The First Annual Ball and De

work ng with more than usual encrpy
nd vinf preparing for the first annual
ball and supper In f years past spasmodic
medic efforts were made to start the
annual ball rolling , but all collapsed
through" want of proper unity and
backing. This year , however , the

on the social switch-board , and issued
invitations to friends near and far to
participalo in the festtvitie ? , at
Standard Hall , Wednesday evening.
Their labors were crowned with the
full mbasure of success , both in
numbers avid character , and the finan
cial returns fully justified the lavish
oxpen of managers.
--Standard'Hall ' presented a brilliant
and beautiful appearance on that
memorable occasion. . .FeatoOns of
evergreens atrelched from the csnlral
chandelier to , every point , like spokes
in a largo wheel , ending in the folds
of numerous flags } on the southern
wall the words "welcome , " wrought
in evergreens , greeted the eyej and on

The wzlls were thickly studded with
pictures of men distinguished in the
higher plains of elzctriclty , among
them those of Prof. Morse , the famous

were the photographs of familiar faces
