SHOOTING SCRAPE , Who Fired the Pistol , a Mat ter of Dispute. Sunday Marshal "WeaUrdahl and officer McClato tcok a stroll down through the third ward , and in the course of a few minutes' valk picked up tvro very drunk individuals. After landing them in the cooler , they re turned , and , near the corner of 10th and Capital avenue met a man who said he had been shot. He showed a hole through his trousers , a few inches above the knee , and eaid the ball was lodged in his leg. He refused to give the name of the individual who fired the bullet or to make any complaint against any one , and no thing could be get out of him but that he had receiv ed his injury in a saloon-kept by Wm. Gruenig , south-east corner 10th and Capital avenue. The officers sent the wounded man to the nearest drug store to have the ball extracted and then proceeded to Gruenig's.to learn the particulars of the afisir. There the parties claimed that the fellow had shot himself , we presume by the reckless handling of a loaded pistol , and the information vris as little satisfactory ai that ob tained from ihe man himself. .Returning to the drug store it was found that tho'man had not been there at all , nor has ho been neon or heard of iincc. There was considerable ta'k ' last night abont the "shoot ng scrape" and , as usual , the rumors were very much exaggerated- so far as is known to the officers , there was not much in it. There is one thing certain , howavor , and that is that there is entirely too much promiscuous shooting done at night on our streets , where , especial ly in the Third ward , ono may hezr the report of a pistol almost any hour of the night. Men who carrr fire arms without any excuse whatever for doing oo , should bo made an example of , and the law regulating the carry ing of fire-arms enforced to its full extent. On Saturday morning last , when the men employed on Captain Porter's ferry-boat went down to begin the days work , they found that some miscreant had , during the night , tried to send the boat adrift by cutting off the stern and bow lines. In casting off the teller line it got afoul of the drum and journal of the teller and that only saved the boat from drift ing down the river. Capt. Porter says he knows of no ono that has any spite against him , unless it bo a cer tain great railroad corporation , or the president of a certain street railroad , and that he cannot think they would hire men to do mich work. This is uot the first time thut an attempt of. this kind has been made , but it has fortunately always happenedlhat the work has been clumsily done , and the ferry saved by some line not entirely parted. Sunday was the second anniver sary of the beginning of the labors of Rev. J. W. Ingram in our city , as pastor of the Christian church , the successful results of which are known to alL The day was celebrated by ap propriate anniversary services , which were deeply interesting to all. Re ports were read by the pastor , by the treasurer , Mr. W. J. Lord , and by Mrs. T. W. T. Richards , secretary of tha Earnest Workers and treasurer < f the Busy Bac3. These reports were of the most [ gratifying character and'higb- ly satisfactory and encouraging to all latercsted. The pastor's report showed an ac tual increase in the church membership * ship of sixty , with fifteen removals , from death , and the existence of the moat perfect harmony and good will between member ? a sor. ! The treasurer's report showed that the church was entirely free of debt , owing not a cent in the world. This is something that few church organi zations can boast of. Sufficient money is also pledged to run the church for the ensuing year. IVfrs. Richards' report showed that the Earnest Workers had raieed about eight hundred dollars during the past two years , and the Busy Bees about two hundred. Both societies are in excellent working condition. After these reports were read , Hon. Alvin Saunders , who is a member of this church , made some most interest ing remarks touching the old organi zation that built the house of worship on Haniey street , between Fourteenth and Fifteenth , in the year 1807. He also gave some good counsel to the new church , urging all to a holy life as the very heart of a Christian reli gion. His remarks were exceedingly interesting , and well received by all. Just before communion two per sons were received into membership. Mr. Ingram has been unanimously invited to continue his labors hero indefinitely.
