Things Past and to Come. The season of createst eocial enjoy ment is rapidly advancing and balls and parties , diuncis and euppera arc taking the place of picnics , festivals and lawn socials , prominent among the events of the past week was the ball with which the Standard club in auguratcd the season of 18SO-81. About sixty couples were in attendance and the evening was ono of ( treat pleasure to all. The music on this occasion was furnished by Stein hauser's splendid orchestra which is engaged for the season. Among seve ral new pieces played , the composition of the leader , was the "Standard Club" waltz-quadrille. A special train with the officers of the B. & M. on boari ran into a freight train near Humboldt on the southern division , on VTednesday night while going to Atchison. The rear car of the freight train was cut almost in two , and the engine lost its smokestack , but fortunately there were no dangerous injuries to those on the train. Mr. Touzalin , Mr. McConniff and L'jw Cropsey were aboard. Passing1 Away. Mr. A. R. Orchard died Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock , aged 71 years , Ho was a native of Kentucky , and came to Omaha from Indiana in 185G , where ho has resided ever since. He was ono of the origins ! organizers o the Presbyterian church , in which for many years he held the office of elder.
