Then there i more ceremony and finterina ; nbout the ci vered basVet , and the pM is shown with the mango leaves just sprouting up. Then iiia covered ovei rg in , autl tnoro hocussing g es on , and the cover is lifted up again , and ! tha plant is seen to have grown. The covering , ihocussing and opening go on , the plant meanwhile having fur ther grown ana become strong enough to ber fruit , the blossom to appear , the fruit to form , end finally the ftult to np.n , which is then plucked off and given to ba oaten. Now we , for our part , cannot un derstand how any one man cannot sea through the performance. N y , even when f > a fellow-aoectator , who once viewed this performance , wo explained the dvtails of tfco trick sftar it was over , he would not relieve , but reck oned the affair wonda-fhl , and even partaking of the supernatural. Wo QMI only attribute it to his having been so mystified a * tohve been actu ally mesmer'zod ' , though pattaking of consciousness. The real truth about ih B f Ht was thegraen and ripe fruits , and every branch and shoot that was exhibited , wore ac'ually there , just as much as the sped and the flowerpot all in tha wrap ? and folds and baske's which formed the covering. Wo were carefully watching the man's proceed ings , and at that time had acquired teina knowlesje of juggling tricks. As tvo were not allowed to touch the instruments of the exhibition after tli ° particular performance began , the biskcts , wraps , etc. , could not be dis turbed ; but with our own eyes we saw f'O performer draw out the branches , etc. , from the folds of the cloths , atd noticed him sticking them into the pot bei-oMh the coyering , working away his liardi , and , as wo thought , very clumsily. L'ho question may ba aakod by a doubt'.r of our account of the process , h jw about a green and a ripe fruit , as well BE blossoms , being produced simultaneously , say at a period when < hcro are no Mich things ; that iswhen , they ara out of season ? This indeed has been brought forvard as a com plete answer by those who believe in thesi jugglers. To answer thin is not BO d ffiauit , however , as it appears. India is a vast continent , and from iti southernmost limit ou the Indian Ooean , wh re there ia little difference between summer and winter , to its northern boundary on the snowy Iliriiiilityas , there * B existing every v-trijty of ciimite at any given time of tha year. The magno flourishes equally in Ceylon and in the sub- Li naalayin countries. We have our- T.lvein passing through the plains into the upper Himalayas , in the course of successive weeks , seen the mango season just over on the pUius ; a little higher up mangoes rere just in season ; the fruit ) forming higher ui ; s'ul ; th < 3 blossoms in full flush a onuplo of thousand feet higher ; vrlnle higher still the blossoms had not ret made an appearsncj. With this fact are to ba taken two others : The. first , th t Indian jugglers all bt-long to cho Masonic biO'lieilj-K d , and are in intima'e com inijhicition with one another , all p"er ii the move , ? The glance of our oyn tpldhim that we knew every d'fitnii in the process , and had watched everything that he did , and so ho con fessed that -\vhat we laid was the truth , rnd apologized by saying that he inuet make a living. A RtWAWAY LOCOMOlTVfl. > EXOITIXd IKCIDBST ON TUS LB- man TALLET ROAD. crr ipondenc * Philadelphia An incident of a thrilling and at the lama time singular nature took plaoa .ast ovenin2 on the Lohigh Yalley railroad. ! ? ho particulars are a fdl- /IKS ! The engine Antelope , No. 47 , with half a dozen flat cars , one of nhich was in front of the locomotive , raa tt Hiding on the track at Fuller Ion , nbout two miles above this city. Tnis was the construction train and the crew were repairing the down 'rack. They neglected to have their flag out to ei nal approaching trains and the engineer and fireman were off the engine. About 5 o'clock , No. 43 freight train , Philip Lauer , engineer , came thundering along , and before a collision could be avoided ran into the construction train. The engineer and tirfiiann jumped off before the crash took placttho former breaking a leg and the Lutor escaping with a few brushes. The force of the collision was to great that the "pullmg-bsr" connecting the engine Antelope with its tender was snapped in two. The concussion forced tha throttle open , and the Antelope , with the flat-c in front , daahod off t a lively speed , the labor ers on the track barely escaping with their lives. The runaway locomotive went faster every moment , and fairly flew along the track , to the conBtern- ion hiid surprise of tbe laborers on the line. In a minute the Allentown Furnace was reached , and passed the immense establishment of the Allen- Sown Rolling Mill company sped the engine with lightning rapidity. Sev eral men here narrowly escaped bein § run over. A dispatch was sent dowr the valley to switch off the runaway and run it aground , but before thu could be accomplished , the engine , when near the Allento n depot , over took a coal train , and dashed into i ! with a frightful fores. For a moment the air was filled with flying coal , broken c a , hissing steam , etc. , and i scene of indiscribable confusion followed. Of course , the run away came to a stand-still. The flat car was hurled from its truck and lunded some distance from tbe track in a demoralized condition. The cow- ca-cher , Bmokeslask and cab of the Antelope were badly broken and the locomotive machinery more or less damaged. The two rear coal care were demolished and their contents thrown around promiscuously , some of the coal being hurled into the air tc altitude of seventy-five feet or more. The track was obstructed for an hour , when general traffic w s resumed. The freight engine was considerably dam' ased r.d one freight car wja throwr off the track. Both engines have beer sent to the shops at South Easton foi repairs. Mr. Lauer the engineer o : the freight train , was taVen to St Luke's hospital at South Bethlehem nhera amputation wa performed during the night. Ha lives at Whiti Haven snd ha ? a family.
