heeling in the roots are often crowded

changes freezing , thawing , wet and
dry weather and they will sometimes
come out in the spring mouldy and
sickly. If water stands about them ,
that is damaging. In planting the
careful man ia always observant to
have each root , if possible , so covered
that it will not touch any neighbor , but
in heeling in this cau'ion is almost al
ways disregarded , and the results are
often injurious. The right sort of
heeling in for whiter ia the next thing
to good planting , and hence by plant
ing as coon as the trees come from the
nursery much hard word and valuable
time are saved.
The advantages for fall planting
may be eummei up as att'urding more
leisure for the work , less bard work
in the aggregate , anearly start in the
sprincr , a longer coison for growth ,
and conss ntly more growth. By
